how can it not make any
how can it not make any sense??? , if your hand position was wider then you would be doing bench press's , it called the close grip bench press in all the muscle magazines that i buy ( muscle mag , flex , muscle and fitness , muscular development etc) so it clearly does make sense to call it the close grip bench press ! Just admit you made a wee woopsies ;) xx
supporting your case...
with your sources as muscle magazines.
Remember my advice, as a young'in, to get people to believe and respect your opinions. Trust me, people won't "laugh" at you, just dont act a fool, haha.
You must have legit sources , unfortunately muscle magazines are not the most legit sources, while they do add some great exercises, and they're usually good don't believe everything you read. 400g of protein a day?
Chest presses are done with the arms extended to the sides because it involves the chest . THis is because the arm is coming across the body.
A triceps extension does not involve the chest , and is an extension of the triceps, which means extending the elbow and forearm from a flexed position, back towards anatomic neutral. There is no pressing in this movement as typical in a bench press.
In your favor, jamo is so huge that for him keeping his elbows at his side appears somewhat outwards because his lats are so huge.
There is a bit of front deltoid assistance during this movement, but not chest.

I think the main difference is how the elbows are kept close to the sides, and hitting the triceps more, compared to letting them go out and hitting more on the chest. Just my opinion..
hey bro!
You are right, its not just your opinion, :).
With the elbows out, you have room to use your chest and bring your arm across your body, or towards the midline, thus using your pecs. With the elbows stabilized (which really means any position as long as they are stabilized) you are using just your triceps. WIth a movement like this, when you start as low as he is, you are also using your front delts a bit to bring the bar up over-head.
