A Little About Me
July 24th, today, I turned 49 years old. I don't feel 49 years old. Wow, I will be 50 next year! Isn't that awesome! What's best is I am not ashamed to tell me REAL AGE because I am in better physical, mental, and emotional shape than I was in my 20's. Weight training has not only changed me on the outside, but it has strengthened me on the inside. Once a person sees the results of hard work, dedication, and consistency, the sky is not the limit.....You gotta see the results in your mind before the reality of the moment transcends! The key ingredient is DEDICATION. It has nothing to do with conceit. It has everything to do with the longevity of life. And in the end, if the mirror smiles back at you, that's just extra benefits! Fitness and maintaining a healthy lifestyle is not a hobby with me. It is and has changed my life. There is no better place to begin, than the beginning.....Let today be the beginning of the new you. You will not be disappointed unless you choose to be.
I am excited and addicted to working out. My husband and I are fortunate enough to have built our own personal gym. He is also into body building and fitness. It has proven to be one of the best investments we have made.
I am a high school English teacher, and have become quite the activist in getting my students involved in fitness. They see the progress I have made at my age and they are easily convinced of the long term benefits of working out. If I can do this, ANYONE CAN! At my highest weight, I was about 175 in 1999. I tried yo-yo diets...nothing worked till I got into weight lifting. Began on July 22, 2005 a five year plan. I just began my fourth year of that five year plan and I am so reaping the results of all my hard work.
I have kept a journal of my workouts where I write what I do, when I do it, the reps, etc. It is a visual tool I use it to help me see where I have come from so that I can plan where I am going. If a day is not entered in the book, then I did not work out that day. I weigh and measure once a month and record those in my journal. In the past year, I have literally been amazed at the progress I have made. I will be posting pictures as I get them. I am so excited about how I feel, how I look, and the changes that are taking place in my body! I don't mind telling anyone my age....every year gets better and better.
Persistence and hard work are the keys! And a good attitude will fuel that fire!
When I Started Working Out
July 22, 2005How I Started
gradually....20 minutes a day at first, keeping a journal of everything I did, dates, and spreadsheet of measurementsWhy I Love It
Because the results are worth it, and I feel best when I train hard! I am in better shape physically and mentally than I was in my 20's. I have less stress. I feel better about myself and it shows. My list could go on and on.How I Stay Motivated
My journal and the mirror keeps me motivated. Motivation comes from within! This has always been something I am doing for ME! I remind myself how far I have come. I take lots of pictures to remind me This is not a diet program for me. This is a way of life I have chosen to improve the longevity of my life.My Worst Injury
My rotator's cuff on my left shoulder got hurt from not warming up good when I first began. Other than that, I have not had any fitness related injuries.
My overall worst injury I ever had to recover from was a broken left foot. I had to really work hard to rebuild the tendons in my foot and the muscle tissue in my left calf. Since I wore a boot and not a caste, the hip joint naturally has a tendency to pain me at times. The offset motion of the height difference in one leg with a boot and one without, and wearing the boot for three months has been a struggle. But every day is better than the day before!
I Would Love To Meet
Optimistic, happy people!
People who believe that their ATTITUDE will determine their ALTITUDE!
Git-r-done people! Motivated to tune out negativity!
People who run their lives instead of having their life run them.
Those are my kind of people!Goals
Main Goal
Stay toned, focussed, and healthy for MEShort Term Goal
Be sporting around in that tiny bikini when I turn 50. And you can bet your bottom dollar, I will be! I will be 50 next year!Long Term Goal
Continue to stay focused in my routines and regimensBodyfat Goal
healthy......I am not wanting to be pencil thin, nor unrealistic.Healthy means more to me.Weight Goal
doesn't matter as much as how I FEELFavorites
Bodyparts (Opposite Sex)
I see EYES first, smiles, then arms, then calves.
Bodyparts (Yours)
I love my back, my shoulders, eyes ,and my waist.
You tell me....Exercises
I have a notebook full of the exercises I have gathered from various
magazines I subscribe to. I do not have any one set way I do something..
I have enough equipment to not be bored.
I have learned that what works for me, may not work for someone else.
I consider that and I LISTEN to what my body tells me and go from there.Healthy Foods
I am allergic to so much I have to be careful of the content and ingredients in foods.
Products with whole wheat or whey won't work for me. Whey is made of fermented cheeses,
whole wheat can contain minute traces of mold. Even peanut butter contains whey. :-(
So healthy foods to most, are not at all healthy for me.
I don't have a lot of bad eating habits.
I drink only water throughout the day and love soy milk (plain or vanilla) with my meals. Not So Healthy Foods
No sodas for me. I don't drink alcohol either.
I watch my fat grams, but not obsessively.
I watch simple carbs...and sugar amounts.Supplements
I am intolerant to chromium, whey products, high doses of vitamin c, and brewer's yeast which is found in most all supplements. Body building supplements do NOT work for me.
I have to rely on my food intake only; I try to eat no processed foods.
It makes things challenging in many ways, but in other ways...I have to depend on myself : my ability to ingest, and maintain my success with diligence/ self discipline. There are NO easy fixes for anything with me.I take Coral Calcium 1000 mg with vitamin D & Magnesium, Vitamin B-50 Complex, and Garlic 1000 mg daily.
These supplements maintain a healthy balance between good and bad bacteria in the body and are very beneficial to anyone.Hobbies

When Scenes Are Not What's Seen
The older I get, the more I think. My kids (I say 'mine' even though I know they belong to someone else) these kids remind me to look within for answers. In my Literary Genre class, we think a great deal. It may not always go in the ways I had aimed for, but the outcomes are always what we ALL needed in that moment.
