A Little About Me
I am a Registered Dietitian, Certified Holistic Chef, Certified Diabetes Educator, Certified Weight Management Specialist and former personal trainer, competitive powerlifter, bodybuilder and marathon runner. I have worked in the health and fitness industry for over 20 years. Currently I write a weekly column for the weekend edition of the Santa Monica Daily Press. I have also written the exercise descriptions for the Men's Health book "Banish Your Belly". I have been conducting TV interviews and cooking demos on nationally syndicated stations around the country for the past 10 years. I was also a guest on Dinner and a Movie on TBS. I have a concept pilot for a science based cooking show which I am shopping.
When I Started Working Out
1986How I Started
Began running on the indoor track in high school. The powerfliting coach was my French teacher. He convinced me to get into powerlifitng. I was the first female competitor in powerlifitng in my high school. Then bodybuilding in college and marathons when I worked at Rodale Press (publishers of Runner's world)Why I Love It
Exercise is my cup of coffee, my drug of choice, so to speak. It helps me clear my head and focus on my goals. How I Stay Motivated
I stay motivated by listening to my body, and knowing the difference between fatigue and just pure laziness which does happen ;-)My Worst Injury
I never had a bad injury until last December ('07) when I broke my foot after tripping over a dog in the house where I worked as a private chef. Right before that happened I was running 50 miles a week. Now I am back to square one, but kept in shape through rowing, biking, lifting and now swimming
I Would Love To Meet
I want to meet Alton Brown and be on his show. 20 years ago, while in college, I came up with the concept for a nutrition science based cooking show. Alton Brown's show is similar to my concept although his involves mainly food science as it pertains to cooking while mine is about clarifying popular nutrition science concept.
