DOMS and Workout Frequency
Posted February 29th, 2008 by James KohlerI was talking with my professor in my graduate program today about delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS). As a personal trainer, I often get asked about muscle soreness. The current research suggests that if you are not sore it doesn't necessarily mean that you have not attained a strength/hypertrophic muscsle adaptation. DOMS is not correlated with muscle hypertrophy. For example, if I asked you to do 1000 push-ups, I can bet you that you are going to be sore the next day. However, that doesn't mean your strength is going to increase and/or muscle mass.
