Thanks Doctor Sean,
Here are a few things I wish to clarify.
Claims concerning the absorption of vitamins and minerals (and the host of associated problems):
+ Soy's "phytates" change the way that our intestines absorb food. They can decrease the absorption of metals and other minerals.
+ Soy's naturally occurring phytoestrogens don't prevent heart disease, but cause a host of estrogen-related diseases. And soy foods are causing goiters and other thyroid problems.
+ Several soy-damning articles written by some people in the red meat/saturated fat movement have been widely circulated on the internet. . They claim that soy contains anti-nutrients and toxins that make nutrition worse, not better.
+They claim that soy causes rather than prevents cancer.

I've also skimmed across some articles discussing soy's cultivation. Fermented versus unfermented. The gist I get is that fermented is better because of the enzymes which break down or inhibit some of the "damage" causing proponents of soy.
Whats the truth on that, and how do we know if the soy has been fermented or not?

Thanks again so much,
and whatever you get to is awesome

Hello Doctor!!

Could you please demystify the truth about Soy Protein?
Whats good? -all natural foods that contain soy, such as edamame, soy nuts, etc.
Whats bad? soy protein in powdered form, but only in super high amounts??

Thanks! THis is very important to me as im totally an advocate for whole foods. I cannot see how edamame, if they are a legume or food found in nature, that they can be in any way shape or form bad in and of themselves (not considering pesticides or habitats/environments in which they are grown) but perhaps their location of culturing (being grown) is what makes them bad or good?

thanks in advance!!

Thanks! I look forward to taking advantage of the knowledge that you share on MyFitTribe!

Sean. Good information your posting. Thanks.!

Happy HOlidays Dr Sean!!!

So its been recnetly brought to my attention that in all my efforts to be super healthy & fit, that I may be killing myself with this...
I've been hearing a lot about gluten and especially oats which may have similar effects to gluten? The main question here is regarding the horrible host of effects associated with gluten. Is it true that all along this could be one of the main reasons for jumpy hormones. Depresssion and horrible Gastro-Int. problems like bloating. I seem to bloat easily, but I'm not exactly sure how you compare that. As well as it causes malaborption of vits & minerals, which could be another reason for depression or even things such as binge eating or eating disorders, at least in my opinion, as if your body is deficient in something, you might just overeat to mask the problem so you can get those "pick me up" hormonal feelings.

Hope this makes some sense ;)
Thanks Dr Sean!!

thank you for the reply Dr. Sean. My father is a physician and he gets on to me when I drink protein shakes. I tell him that I want to get an optimal amount of protein and not the minimal amount for average individuals. Thanks for the reply and God bless.

Dr. Sean,

I hear so much stuff about excess protein being bad on your kidneys. In normal healthy individuals, kidneys are not really affected right? I hear so much mixed reviews about too much protein damaging kidneys. But then again I dont know if people understand the difference between "too much" and optimal for muscle growth. Let me know your opinion. I currently take in 1 gram per pound of bodyweight.

Thanks
Jason

Thanks for the comment. I added the response to your guestbook.

So Dr. Sean in other words you don't recommend taking whey protein on your rest day? Also how many grams of protein intake can our body digest in a 24 hour period and do you think excess, unabsorbed protein can cause damage to our kidneys?

Thansk again for your response Doc!!
