A Little About Me
I started training in martial arts when I was 15 years old. However, my career in the health and fitness industry didn't really begin until 1994 when I was appointed to run the UCLA Taekwondo program. It was truly a dream come true. Within one year, I had dramatically increased the enrollment and started a collegiate team. After this, I continued to teach at various martial arts studios and also started personal training on the side. Life was very simple back then. In September, 2004 my sister passed away due to an epileptic seizure. She was only twenty-four years old. Truth be told, I hated the doctors who took care of her and treated us so poorly because we didn't have health insurance. So I made a promise to my sister that I would become a doctor. A doctor who would truly care about his patients and make a difference in the lives of each person that he came across. Over the last 14 years I have held true to that promise. I have started numerous health education and fitness programs in inner-city communities, given health and fitness education seminars to hundreds of people, and now I am working as an Internal Medicine/Nephrology Physician.
My hope is to provide you with unbiased,evidence-based, peer-reviewed research about diet, nutrition, fitness and supplements. I am excited to be a part of the community and look forward to getting to know each one of you.
Warmest regards,
Sean Hashmi, M.D., M.S.

Can taking baking soda make you stronger in your workouts?
Posted February 28th, 2009 by Dr SeanWe all know that exercise causes lactic acid buildup and some studies have shown that taking baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) can enhance performace in short-duration, high-intensity exercises. But does sodium bicarbonate help with muscular strength during weightlifting?
