..got more tips from Dr Clair ... the honey roasted peanuts in the afternoon that you were having are making you worse .

my eating is crazy!!! I have no control over it.

cardio_girl's picture

I think I need to go back to the five meals a day. Oatmeal and 3 egg whites for breakfast. Mid morning and mid afternoon snack power crunch bar. Lunch protein and a little carbs, then dinner protein and no carbs. I tried to cut out the power crunch bar because I wasn't doing as much running (training) I am still doing cardio (ellipitical) but not the hard core training program I was following before. Since I wasn't hungry for my mid morning snack I thought I would cut it out (less calories since a power crunch bar is 200 calories) and just have a good breakfast and lunch but it seems like after I eat lunch an hour latter I get so hungry and once I start to satisfy that hungry and craving I start eating and can't stop. Should I replace one of the power crunch bars with a muscle milk light shake since a shake is around 100 calories and a bar is 200? What should be my calorie goal for the day? Starting the middle of December (next week) I start my training program again and will be doing cardio 6 days a week plus three days a week of following your awesome strength training program. I need to get this under control today so that I can feel better and focus on my training instead of my eating which was something I haven't had to worry about for a long time.

diet advice

Jamo,

I need help!! For the last 6 months I have been following the diet you gave me religously. Around the begining of November I think I fell off the wagon. I start my day good with eating my 1/2 cup of steal cut oatmeal with frozen blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries, I also slice up 4 fresh strawberries and add them to the oatmeal. Usually I was eating 3 egg whites scrambled but lately I have been adding vanilla muscle milk light to the oatmeal. And then a cup of green tea. That is my breakfast. Before I was having a mid morning snack either a power crunch bar or a shake (1 scope of cytosport or muscle milk light). However, lately I haven't been eating the mid morning snack. Then lunch I have been eating a salad with protein. So I feel light I am doing good in the morning... am I right? However, around 1 or 2 pm I am so hungry that I start eating junk (carbs) and can't stop until 4 or 5 pm. Any suggestions on what to do to get back on the gravy train??? Also any suggestions of what to do in the afternoon when I start craving all those carbs? Hope to hear from you soon.

Your lunch is not sustaining you and you are becoming hypoglycemic ( low blood sugar) in the afternoon. The carb cravings are your body's attempt to raise your blood sugar to a level that protects your brain. Try adding a little more fat in the form of healthy oils at lunch and don't miss your healthy afternoon snack which can contain some protein and some healthy, low glycemic carbs like half an apple and a handful of dry roasted, nonsalted almonds. In our weight loss program we supply little packets containing some carbs and vitamins to get people through the afternoon drop in blood sugar to head off the cravings before they happen. I would also suggest some chromium 400 mcg per day to help stabilize your blood sugar. Finally, afternoon cravings are sometimes a symptom of a thyroid deficiency, you might want to check that out.

5 meals

What I was doing before was having oatmeal with fruit and 3 egg whites for breakfast with green tea, then a power crunch bar for mid morning snack, protein with a little bit of carb(brown rice, ect) for lunch, mid afternoon snack power crunch and then dinner protein with veggies no carbs. Ever since I stopped following that I feel like my eating has been out of control the cravings are crazy in the afternoon after lunch. I eat what I think is a good lunch and then a hour or two latter I am starving. So I hit the pantry for honey roasted peanuts, and apple with peanut butter, or honey whole wheat pretzles. And nothing seems to satisfy my craving or hunger. Since I am not doing as much cardio as before (I was training for a marathon) and will be starting up my training program again the middle of December I thought I should try to cut out the mid morning and afternoon snacks or instead of having a power crunch bar have a muscle milk light shake because it has only 100 calories verse 200 with a power crunch bar. But like I said before the afternooon witching hour takes over and I start eating everything and once I start I can't stop. I just couldn't figure out how I went from being so incontrol with my eating and no I feel like I have no control once 2 pm comes around. Thanks for all your advise and help. I need it to get myself back on track so that I can start training again.

Ok ..

First you need to go back 2 what we did @ the beginning in regards of your food . Second DO NOT BUY food that you don't need or have in the meal plan i designed for you . From the conversation I had with you on the phone you said you have cut down on your cardio intensity because of the ankle injury you had .that means you are burning less and eating more thats why your bodyweight is back up . Its not the end of the world ..you can still go back to the old eating routine you had ..try this for now
Do your cardio on the elliptical for 45 minutes before breakfast
Your breakfast , cut the muscle milk to half the serving , use either the berries mix or the strawberries ..do not do both .. NEXT FROM NOW ON write exactly what you had every day and post it here for me to check ...Im sure you eating more carbs than you think .. remember go back to what we did before it was working ... and STOP BUYING STUFF THAT IS BAD FOR YOU BECAUSE YOU WILL EAT IT ...
