- 1. What two words best describe your build/physique/figure? Why?
- Symmetry and Proportion. I was never the biggest guy in the bunch, so I’ve always believed in quality over quantity.
- 2. What part of your body deserves to be honored in the “Physique Hall of Fame?” Why?
- My abs. I rarely work them, but the guys at Muscle & Fitness call me the “Torso Guy.” Those abs on the cover of “The Muscle & Fitness Book of Abs” --- those are mine.
- 3. When did you first realize your body was sexy, appealing or exemplary?
- The second time I walked into the gym, because everything came easy after the first time. I played soccer as kid, so I always had good quads and calves. The military taught me discipline and the basics of bodybuilding. I took to it and later began adding size over the years.
- 4. In the quiet moment before you begin a workout, what’s the first thing that goes through your mind? And what is the last thing that goes through your mind as you conclude a workout?
- The first thing I think is, “I’m gonna work! Gotta get it done!” My mood depends on if I’m training for a shoot or something in particular, who I’m working out with, or the just the music I’m hearing. The last thing I think is, “Where my food? When’s my next meal?” I’m always thinking about food.
- 5. Who is your physique/fitness idol or role model, and what body part would you steal from that person for a day?
- I like Lee Labrada and Berry DeMey. My all-time favorite is Bob Paris. I’m happy with what I’ve got, but I’d take Bob’s back for a day.
- 6. Who or what inspires you to accept the daily challenge of building your physique/figure?
- The fans, the emails I receive every day, and the positive response from people. I also enjoy changing people’s lives through training. I have a high passion for fitness, but I also take criticism. I’m not trying to be the best. I’m just trying to do my best. When you do your best, you will be your best.
- 7. If someone wrote a book or song about your body, what would it be called?
- ”The Beast From The Middle East”
- 8. Your name appears as an option on a restaurant menu, and you order the dish/beverage. What food/drink does the waiter deliver to your table?
- Sushi and a cinnamon roll. I love them both!
- 9. What would a talking mirror say about your body if you stood naked in front of it?
- ”Are you happy?” And I respond with my favorite saying, “Who am I to…?” Who am I to not appreciate what I have on this day? We all should ask this.
- 10. If you received the ultimatum: workout or die— but your other favorite thing was simply too hard to resist— what is that one other thing you love (besides loved ones, family, friends, etc.) so much that you would actually choose it over your “final workout?”
- I would go to the gun range. I go once a week. I don’t see it as a violent thing. It takes away my anxiety, just like working out does. Like training, shooting at the range takes discipline, focusing on what’s in front of you and getting what’s inside out. I’m a “keep it in myself” person, but we all have our demons. For me, shooting ”takes the beast out.”
