1. What two words best describe your build/physique/figure? Why?
Strong and Boundless. Strong because the physique I've worked to create represents not only physical strength, but also mental strength. Boundless because the power to sculpt my body into something strong and healthy is limitless. After 17 years of training, I’m still a work in progress.
2. What part of your body deserves to be honored in the “Physique Hall of Fame?” Why?
My abs. Genetically, I’m fortunate. When I feel like I can't see my abs, I eat a little cleaner and step up the cardio and I can see the definition within a week.
3. When did you first realize your body was sexy, appealing or exemplary?
When I was in the Air Force, I’d go to clubs on the weekends with friends. Girls always asked me if I was a Chippendale’s dancer. I knew the time devoted to my workouts was paying off! The compliments never made me bigheaded; they boosted my self-confidence and made me feel attractive and yes, sexy.
4. In the quiet moment before you begin a workout, what’s the first thing that goes through your mind? And what is the last thing that goes through your mind as you conclude a workout?
My quiet moment before a workout begins at home, when the mental workout begins with visualization. I envision each exercise I’ll do— the movement, purpose and intensity of each rep and how I want that muscle to look in the long run. I live out those visions in the gym. At the conclusion of my workout, I feel empowered and think about where I want to eat because of how hungry I am!
5. Who is your physique/fitness idol or role model, and what body part would you steal from that person for a day?
Even though, the odds were initially against him, Arnold Schwarzenegger is living the American dream by continuing to be an achiever— a champion bodybuilder, an amazing entrepreneur and now, the Governor of California. I’d definitely steal Arnold’s massive arms. That’s definitely one of my physical weaknesses.
6. Who or what inspires you to accept the daily challenge of building your physique/figure?
My family is my biggest inspiration. I strive to be my best and do everything I can to stay healthy and active for my wife, Rochelle, and my daughter, Selena.
7. If someone wrote a book or song about your body, what would it be called?
I think my song has already been written. It’s “Sexy Back.” LOL.
8. Your name appears as an option on a restaurant menu, and you order the dish/beverage. What food/drink does the waiter deliver to your table?
A healthy cut of salmon— lightly seared and raw in the middle— and a side of broccoli with a tall glass of unsweetened iced tea and a wedge of lemon.
9. What would a talking mirror say about your body if you stood naked in front of it?
“WOW—Keep up the good work!”
10. If you received the ultimatum: workout or die— but your other favorite thing was simply too hard to resist— what is that one other thing you love (besides loved ones, family, friends, etc.) so much that you would actually choose it over your “final workout?”
Not many people know this, but I taught myself to play the guitar well enough to play small gigs and weddings for 2 years. I’ve composed enough songs to record a few full-length albums, which I am working toward. Both bodybuilding and music fulfill my desire to learn new skills and achieve new things.
