1. What two words best describe your build/physique/figure? Why?
Feminine and athletic. I'm not a fitness model or figure type of girl, but I have always been an athlete! My arms may not be cut up but they are toned, and I can still kick some butt at beach volleyball. However, my passion is Polynesian Dancing and the reason I stay fit...nobody likes a jelly belly on a hula dancer!
2. What part of your body deserves to be honored in the “Physique Hall of Fame?” Why?
My okole! LOL. I only say that because I've been told that you can bounce a dollar off my ass, LOL!!!! What an image!
3. When did you first realize your body was sexy, appealing or exemplary?
Probably not until I was about 32 or 33. My metabolism caught up with me (finally), and I had to get more serious about my training. It was at the gym that women would approach me and ask about my diet and/or workouts. Me, of all people? It was a true awakening for me and when I started to appreciate my body more.
4. In the quiet moment before you begin a workout, what’s the first thing that goes through your mind? And what is the last thing that goes through your mind as you conclude a workout?
The first thing is to "get pumped!!!” I always turn on my trance on the way to the gym, visualizing each exercise I'm going to do that day! The mental prep is key! Afterwards, I think of my next workout and how to harness the same energy (or if I had little energy) how to regain motivation. Always looking forward.
5. Who is your physique/fitness idol or role model, and what body part would you steal from that person for a day?
I really like the natural, toned, athletic body, so who else but Gabrielle Reece, pro volleyball player and former fashion model? Long, sleek muscles with gorgeous lines even finely defined! I love this woman!
6. Who or what inspires you to accept the daily challenge of building your physique/figure?
I have to find the motivation within myself. I'm not a competitor. I train for personal health and to feel good naked! LOL. I do have many friends that I talk with and exchange workouts, but for the most part, I rely on my inner self to stay motivated. I believe that without self-motivation nobody can move you.
7. If someone wrote a book or song about your body, what would it be called?
“Fabulously Forty!” (Yes, I'll be 40...it only gets better!)
8. Your name appears as an option on a restaurant menu, and you order the dish/beverage. What food/drink does the waiter deliver to your table?
"Simply Mayhem" (They make it for me at a café near my house.) Five egg whites with fresh basil, roma tomatoes, and white onion, half of an apple, wheat toast with peanut butter and a cup of Joe! My favorite morning meal! Yummy!
9. What would a talking mirror say about your body if you stood naked in front of it?
“Your fairest Mayhem, you seem healthy from first glance, but turn, baby, turn. Now that okole is a great addition to those pants.” LOL. Seriously, it would probably say, “Don't eat anymore ice cream!!!”
10. If you received the ultimatum: workout or die— but your other favorite thing was simply too hard to resist— what is that one other thing you love (besides loved ones, family, friends, etc.) so much that you would actually choose it over your “final workout?”
My dancing. Being on stage, expressing my culture through the dance, is intoxicating for me. The icing would be to have my BFF and I on stage together again, like old times! I don't care if I'm 80-years-old, I’d break a hip to do a hula. Your passion never dies even when you can't do it physically. You do it in your heart. Now that's passion!
