How do I start?

limitations
Posted July 11th, 2008 by tribe doc"Argue for your limitations, and sure enough, they're yours" - Richard Bach
Man, is this true! I constantly find myself limiting myself! Who says I can't be in better shape now than ever before? Who says I can't change the paradigm of health in this country to one that emphasizes health and not absence of symptoms? Me! That's who! But I can change that, I can believe in myself and stop doubting myself, stop limiting myself. I can make small efforts everyday that will help me reach my goals and I will!
Who else is limiting themselves?
Savings 40 cents per gallon
Posted April 28th, 2008 by tribe docWe’re all reeling from the price at the pump lately, here is something that is rarely mentioned. While each vehicle is somewhat different, gas mileage decreases rapidly at speeds above 60 mph. Generally, you can assume that each 5 mph you drive over 60 mph is like paying an additional $0.20 per gallon for gas. So if you’re like many, driving 70 mph is costing you 40 cents per gallon! How many people shop around to find the station selling gas for 10 cents under the competitors?
American Gladiator
Posted January 25th, 2008 by tribe docOk, come on, you can't tell me these "gladiators" aren't taking growth hormone and testosterone ! Talk about an unfair advantage! How is your above average athlete supposed to compete with these guys (and women)? And yet the show is wildly popular. Maybe the American public is ok with athletes optimizing if not supercharging their hormone levels even is the FDA and the pro sports governing bodies aren't. Hey, if its ok to hurt someone in the rink with a massive body check, why not be able to "hurt" yourself (if that is the concern) to give the fans a better show?
Rethinking Growth Hormone in Pro Sports
Posted January 8th, 2008 by tribe docAs incredibly sophisticated as professional sports have become, it amazes me that there is such a witch hunt going on about the use of human growth hormone. Yes, there is the potential for abuse, but it doesn't have to be that way. There is good scientific evidence that the production of growth hormone, the bodies major hormone of repair, can become deficient in many professional athletes.
changing wrists
Posted October 20th, 2007 by tribe doc7 times yesterday, already up to that number by 2 pm today, its harder on the weekends when I'm out and around-more time to get negative over traffic, my knee injury, some woman's poor dietary choices... Oh well, I'll keep trying!
wristbands
Posted October 19th, 2007 by tribe docListening to the radio yesterday morning, I heard about a minister who was sending wrist bands to people to make them aware of how much they complain. The idea is to change the wrist you have the band on every time you catch yourself complaining. I think this is a great idea as are the wristbands that are worn for causes such as cancer organizations. but think we tribe members should take it further. How about wearing a myfittribe wristband and changing wrists every time you catch yourself saying or thinking something negative whether its about someone else or yourself. Lets go positive!
No, Dr. Evil, not $1 million....
Posted October 3rd, 2007 by tribe docMore like $1 TRILLION ! That's how much could be saved by focusing on prevention according to a study by the Milken Institute. The Milken report is one of the most ambitious attempts to quantify what is at stake in economic terms.
It says a reorientation toward prevention could avert 40 million cases of seven chronic diseases -- cancers, diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, stroke, mental disorders and pulmonary conditions -- in the year 2023.
That would reduce anticipated treatment expenses associated with the seven diseases and improve productivity by $1.1 trillion that year.
the future
Posted September 27th, 2007 by tribe docWe just had an evening informational seminar last night at Vibrance on adult stem cell therapy-AMAZING! This is definitely the future of medicine!
one year to live
Posted September 18th, 2007 by tribe docI'm curious and I have my own feelings but I'm interested in how tribe members would act if they knew they only had one year to live. Would you continue to work out and eat right, take vitamins and work on bettering yourself? Or would you say, "Hell, with it! I ain't wastin my time in the gym! I'm gonna go out and eat all the junk food I want! I'm gonna party !"
Obviously, there is no right answer here, please, just let me know what you would do and, also, please tell me how old you are. Thanks!
no workout!
Posted September 14th, 2007 by tribe docIts almost 7 am now. I'm on the computer writing this because my other trainer (Jamo, forgive me for being unfaithful!) overslept. I got up at 4 to workout at 5 only to spend a half hour waiting, having my battery die on me while sitting in the car, and worst of all, not getting a workout! I've got it! I will take matters in my own hands (no, not that!) and go out for a run! See you all later!
the fittest athletes?
Posted September 10th, 2007 by tribe docI was watching a litle of the tube yesterday and caught the US Open tennis finals. Federer once again prevailed, he is amazing to watch even on an off day. I have to think the top tennis players are among the most fit athletes in the world. Not only do they have to have great stamina, they also need power, flexibility, tremendous coordination, and perhaps most of all great mental skills-concentration and confidence that they can get the job done.
Any other thoughts?
glycemic index
Posted August 31st, 2007 by tribe docRecently, a tribe member and obviously dedicated fitness fanatic asked me about "glycemic carbs". The fact that this member did not know about them indicates to me that our educational system is once again failing us. For all you teachers out there, forgive me, but I feel the most important class kids take, the class that they can use for the rest of their life, is Health, and they apparently aren't teaching about the glycemic index there.
