Hard Muscle
Posted June 22nd, 2008 by bjsorensenCan anyone lend info/resources on how to develop 'hard' muscle? (techniques, methods, nutrition, etc) Is 'hard' muscle equivalent to lean muscle mass?
Periodization - Strength & Hypertrophy
Posted December 13th, 2007 by bjsorensenI've been pretty bad at keeping track/updating my workout and nutrition log for the past 2 weeks. I just moved back to Utah from San Francisco, so on top of work, I've been doing plenty of skiing!
Periodization - Hypertrophy
Posted November 26th, 2007 by bjsorensenAnd so concludes block 2 of the hypertrophy stage for the periodization training. Another abnormal block because of Thanksgiving, but overall very effective. I also changed my tempo from 3 sec - 1 sec - 2 sec to more of a natural tempo; probably more like 1-2 sec - 1 sec - 2 sec. This definitely made a difference. I'm going to stick with that tempo through block 3 and probably change it again for block 4.
Periodization - Hypertrophy
Posted November 16th, 2007 by bjsorensenI finished my first block of hypertrophy last night. Unfortunately, this block was interrupted by a 4 day bender in DC with fraternity brothers, so I have some catching up to do!
Here is what my workload looked like (I posted the leg workout in my last entry).
Chest/Tri
- flat fly (2 warm up sets x 15) (3 x 11)
- incline dumbbell (3 sets, 10-11-11)
- dummbell press ( 3 sets, 10-9-10)
- spiderman pushups (3 x 12): these are one of my favorite exercises as they challenge balance, involve core stabilization and really focus on the chest.
- rope pushdown (4 x 10)
Periodization Training
Posted November 8th, 2007 by bjsorensenI started a new routine about a month ago and I figured I would keep track of how it's going. I used the information from Magnus' article about periodization. I'll include specific exercises, nutrition, and any ancillary information.
I'm doing my best to stick to 2 on - 1 cardio - 2 on - 1 off split, but work and travel will make that difficult.
(side note: I've been doing the warm-up activation religiously for about 2 months now and I love it. It helps me mentally prepare for the workout in addition to the physical benefits.)
