Why Do You Exercise?

Ozzie Jacobs's picture

Philosopher Eric Hoffer once said “We need not only a purpose in life to give meaning to our existence but also something to give meaning to our suffering. We need as much something to suffer for as something to live for.” Existentialists and philosophers around the world agree that the struggle to find meaning is the “primary motivational force in man”. This motivational force drives our decision making, behavior and intent to pursue a career, relationship and exercise. This begs the question “Why do you Exercise??”

If you want to build a rocket, all you have to do is follow the instructions. In fact, I’ve seen 10 year olds build and successfully launch homemade rockets.

Accomplishing your fitness and health goals is another thing altogether – especially if one of your goals is building muscle, for example.

The fact is that science knows very little about how to do things like build muscle. If you don’t believe me, then go ahead and google “how to build muscle”. I did, and got 581,000 results.

Diet and exercise is not hard but it takes time. Unfortunately time is not something most people have a lot of. Ironically, people end up wasting a lot of time because they don’t manage their time wisely. They spend too much time doing one thing, not enough time doing important things, or wasting time doing anything and everything but the right thing. When people feel as though their effort does not match their results, they give up.

I want to encourage you! Here are three simple steps to help you make the most of your time.
