When to compete, and what to do?

Stevers's picture

Granted everyone is different but there are principles, ideas, and similarities that can be shared.

Okay, so if I wanted to enter a competition, how many months prior to competition should I start cutting? And I'm sure this varies with body fat percentage, but could someone give me examples? Say you're 10% bodyfat, would you start cutting 4 months out?

Also, how do your workouts change? Since you're no longer trying to put on size, I'm sure your workouts are more geared towards muscle maintenance. Do you switch the exercises to more isolation and machine as well? Or just change the repetition range?

How about your diet/nutrition?

How about 1 week out? What changes?

I totally agree w/ Jamo!

I totally agree w/ Jamo! It's a very intense and very much trial and error process to mold your body for "competition" status....and i'm talking fitness and bodybuilding both. there's so much that goes into it...from your body type to your current wt to where you need to be to your metabolism function to the foods and diff exercises needed to emphasize the areas in your body to achieve symmetry....that's just to name a few. But in the end it's all worth it.....not for the "object" prize of entering a competition but more so for the education and experience you will have learning how your body functions inside and out and how you can mold it to the physique you want to achieve......it's both an art and a science and it's absolutely an amazing experience w/ the right person by your side to guide you to that point!!!
DO IT! i believe it's an experience that everyone should experience at least once in their life!
but be ware lol it's so addictive once you know how to take your body from one point to the next....absolutely amazing!!!!!!
