Function Strength vs. Brute Strength

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to ask an age old question that has been touched on in magazines before, and see what everyone here has to say about the topic. When working out is it better to focus on Functional Strength or Brute Strength in order to improve ones physique? Now, keep in mind when answering that each plays an important role in how an individual starts out on their journey for a better body...

That all lies in what you mean by 'improve'.

If you simply mean to improve your aesthetic appeal and look good for the ladies, then hands down functionality wins. But if you're training to 'improve' your performance in certain sports, then it could be either. Football for example you'd probably want brute strength, but soccer or tennis, functionality would definitely take on a more prominent role.

Oh and definitely brute strength for ping pong! /facetious
