fat not budging

Hi,

I recently went away for 3mths doing volunteer work in Thailand. During this time I obviously wasnt doing my daily exercise and was not in control of the food I ate - this was provided where i was volunteering.

My body measurements altered quite significantly and now i cant fit in any of my pants/skirts i own. I did not gain a significant amount of weight, just quite a few inches here and there- especially hips and thighs.

I have since been back 2mths and have been going to the gym 6 days a week to get back to where i was. In this time I have not lost a single centimeter. I am watching what i eat far more than I was before i went away and getting very demotivated at this stage that i'll ever get back to where i was.

Someone at my gym told me because I was fit before I went away that I would find it more difficult to lose the weight. My fitness has definately returned just can't understand why after 2mths I wouldnt be seeing any results.

Any help appreciated,

Rachael

Sometimes it can be tough to lose just a few pounds or to lose "the last few"... it's very common for people to hit plateaus around that time. Your story is a bit different, but probably has similar causes. First of all, if you just go back to the same (relative) caloric intake and the same workout routine as you had before, even though you get into shape, you may not lose any fat. So, I think what you might want to do is shake it up a little and change around your workout routine. We are going to be posting an article on breaking through plateaus soon, so keep an eye out for that. Also, you might want to post more information here so that some of our experts can offer you more specific information. A good start would be to talk about a typical workout routine as well as an estimate of your daily caloric intake.
