Tell me it isn't so...

Rumor has it that the tribe may be shutting down. There has not been any new content in a while, so I hope it isn't true. Jamo, what is up with the rumor. Tell me it is only a rumor.

Our goal is to continue to offer great health and fitness content for all of you for years to come. We are looking at ways to generate some revenues to cover expenses and will roll out these plans soon. In academic publishing some
In academic publishing some journals have a 'moving wall'. Basically, paying subscribers can get to articles immediately, others have to wait (6 months, 1 year, 5 years, it depends).
Maybe MFT could do something similar. Paying subscribers could see everything immediately whereas non-paying viewers could only see it after a while (1 month, 6 months, etc).
This way, some people, including me, will be happy to pay to have immediate access to new material, but at the same time even non-paying people eventually will be able to see things, thereby allowing *everyone* to benefit from this great site.
Anyway, good luck.
well, that remains to be seen...
hey guys,
It's true that MFT is in some trouble. The site is in the hole big time financially, as writing articles (this is another big issue: it's very hard to find people who want to write articles), filming videos, paying for server costs and bandwidth all adds up real quick. And, unfortunately the ads on the site right now are basically not making any money at all, and no one is really buying products. So, we are looking into alternate ways to at least balance out the costs. We are thinking about having premium memberships, but aren't sure yet what value we can add to make that worthwhile to the users. Perhaps being able to decide what content they want to see?
Anyways, all is not lost yet, we will likely be making some changes in the near future to try and get the site back on track and hopefully turn this into a healthy site that can last for a long long time.
i thought
i thought the same thing. My fit tribe use to be more popular. in a matter of hours there would be multiple responses to a new entry blog. now, i leave good, helpful, knowledgeable blogs and noone responds. everyone seems to be off doing there own thing. its a shame. but i don't understand how myfittribe makes money. For example, it doesn't cost anything to make a facebook. but facebook is so popular companies advertise on there site. On my facebook i always have movie advertising or something like that and thats how facebook makes there money (along with multiple other ways as well)
but with MFT - i only see stuff that is related to myfittribe so i don't understand how they make there money. I mean someone buying a t-shirt once a month isn't keeping this site up and running... or at least i don't think so.
it would be bad if the site closed down. I really do enjoy reading and posting blogs. I even get that feeling that i helped someone today or i gave someone some advice.
In a poll..
Jamo asked the members how much they would be willing to pay to keep MFT going and the maximum amount in the choices was $5. Most of the members responded they would gladly pay that amount to keep the site going. Yet this site is a business and content contributors devote so much time and energy into it (I appreciate) so breaking even is not enough the site has to make money. I would be sorry if MFT shuts down due to financing problems.
Advertising is nice and it sure brings money. This is a fitness oriented site so supplement companies are the most likely advertisers for the site but Jamo and MFT community have a "health first and no bs" approach so this site would not promote spending money on unnecessary supplements or taking products with side effects which would not please most of the advertisers.
