I need a waaaahmbulance!

So for the last 6 weeks I was not able to work out ONCE. It's like as soon as my husband lost his job and our health insurance, my body gave me the middle finger. LOL

For six weeks I spent my time sprawled out in bed or on the couch thanks to ugly antibiotics and other issues. I was hardly able to eat; I completely lost my appetite due to nausea and medications. Thus working out was not much of an option either. I ate clean for the most part but a couple of times I had to eat less nutritious options just to get myself to eat something at all. I started to look very unhealthy as well due to lack of sleep in addition to all the other health problems.

I finally moved my deadlines up and returned to Canada a month early just to get affordable health treatment. Everything cleared up for the most part. I still have to see the doctor about lingering issues but at least things are headed in a more positive direction. I can finally go back to exercising again too!

I started on Friday with my first martial arts class in a year. I'm back in for the long haul now. Boy was the first work out FUN!!! *Squeee* Mostly cardio along with some drills and sparring. I'm going to add weights in on Tuesday's and Thursdays once I get a membership. Karate is M-W-F-Sun

The worst part; for two days now I've had to "waddle" everywhere because every muscle in my legs is screaming in agony LOL I have a painful back, painful arms, painful chest, painful abs, painful glutes and of course calves and thighs. Everything hurts so bad. I had to finally cave and buy robaxacet; a muscle drug here in Canada which is awesome. Oh and I got 3 bruises. Hot...battle scars!

However, it just goes to show you how 6 weeks can really set you back in terms of muscle and fitness. I didn't gain any fat per say, but I did lose a few pounds, probably mostly muscle. Not cool, since for a girl it's so hard to get that muscle in the first place.

It's going to take a while to get back on the bandwagon. I also need to develop my balance muscles (and speed) since they are pretty weak and cause me to underperform. Granted a lot of it is muscle memory and practise, but that comes more with time. The strength sure does help though. I spent a bit of training today standing on one leg and trying to develop those muscles to hold me. This way I can actually make kicks or whatever without losing balance.

Yay for being back! I can now annoy you all with Karate updates instead of weight lifting updates.

Hey lady

good to see you back here on MFT . Im really sorry to learn that your hubby lost his job . Hope things will workout at the end . Funny talking about how when your not working out you go backward so Quick that the older you get the harder you find it to get back quick on the fitness Wagon . I was talking to a client of mine after I finished training him , the poor guy was in so much pain before he started working with me that he couldn't move ! He goes JAMO I COME HERE TO WORKOUT , BECAUSE I DON"T WANT TO GO THROUGH THAT PAIN AGAI IN MY LIFE ! People don't realize how important it is to stay healthy and fit , the might not care now , but the older you get the more pain you will have living day to day if your not healthy and fit .

You do go backward really

You do go backward really quick. I can imagine that the older you are the harder it is for your body to recover from something like that. I recovered pretty quick since I'm still young. I'm back about 80%. I just need to get a gym membership so I can continue lifting outside of Karate. I also need to build up certain muscles that I wasn't using as much, like muscles that help me balance on one leg while kicking.

I definitely wouldn't want to go through that pain again though. I took a bunch of muscle relaxers so I could just do normal things like sneeze without going OWWWW. My mom was driving with me and laughed so hard when I did that. It was pretty funny but yeah....I wouldn't want to fall back too often. Getting sick sucks!

welcome back!

it seems 2008 has been the year of drastic change, maybe its what everyone needs!! thats why its really an "IN SHAPE IN 08' " year, i was personallly on my way to sweetness (7weeks into cutting) when i messed up my ankle, worse than a break. now im finally back on after it was a total of about 8-10 weeks of none to little exercise. this definitely meant no cardio until just recently when i saw my doctor.

im hoping to bring God into my life now and hope it will be even better as ive been on a roll and i want to continue with it. you can always check out my blog in the WOrkout Programs Forum. A second coming... to see what i mean.

Thank you! Did you know that

Thank you! Did you know that 8 in biblical numerics means "new beginnings"? LOL I guess it fits perfectly huh? Good to see you've come back too though!

It feels really good to work out. And it's so funny, in my karate class tonight, even with 6 weeks off, I was still kicking some people's butts in terms of physical fitness. We had to do some relays and our team got behind. I was the last person to go and we were trying hard to catch up. I managed to catch us up and win! *flexes*

Hahahaha, it gives me a boost in confidence to see this, because that first night and the subsequent pain for two days really made me feel like a weenie.
