I wrote in a blog once that we "never know how far our reach reaches." Sometimes, like yesterday, my reach reaches out from the past and then, reaches in to the present.
I have often said that many times the greatest difference comes when we least expect it. I really try to be mindful of what I say, how I say it, making my words sweet in case I have to swallow them someday. Words are like arrows and can tear someone apart as easily as they can build someone up.
I was surprised with an email yesterday morning from a former student. I taught her in 6th and 12th grades. I always believed in her...even when she did not believe in herself. Her email came when I needed to hear it....needed to feel it....it is the little things that mean SO VERY MUCH to me.
I asked her if I could blog it and she told me I could. I like to share what the kids share with me....even when the kids grow up and away...when they don't need me as much, I still like to hear from them and remember....

That is where I live ...like 15 minutes from Panama City .....looks like you had fun though...I wanted to tell you something... there have been days I have thought about you so much...you are my inspiration FOR REAL...I am in college now I am studying to teach k-8. Its an 18 month class for k-3 that is what I am almost finished with now....I have had the same man for 8 months now...and when you saw me last I was 185 pounds and now I weigh 143 and it is healthy. It is always the people you don't think you touch....who TOUCH YOU THE MOST. Be mindful of the kindness you give, the time you share, the thoughts you project.....cause every thing comes back to you.

i just read your blog.
it is true. teachers really impact a students life. the thing is that it can be in a positive way or negative.
when i receive my bachelors i will go to all the teachers that help me and thank them for their help because without them i would have never accomplish anything. however their are some teachers that actually made school a not so pleasant experience. i have friends actually dropping their career plan for how the teachers were.
from what i read i can tell you are a great teacher and a health model to the people around you.
how i said before, keep doing what you are doing because even if you don't think so people are watching your every move, and that is an opportunity to inspire the audience in your life.

I have certainly had "bad motivators" in my life time. I can still hear the high school teacher who told me I never would amount to anything.....shame on him! But there were two very inspirational teachers in my life and I prefer to think of them instead of the negative ones.
I was thinking I may incorporate the fitness and nutritional values into my kid's writing assignments. Sounds like a great plan to me! And I love how you said "an opportunity to inspire the audience in your life" wow! I am the one who gets my inspiration from the good I find in others....maybe that's how I can give it back out! :-)
