... respctable body fat percentage .?....
... well i'l be returning to my home in Fl on Mon and resuming diet and exercise regime ... i need to set a goal because as we all know it is easier to stick to a plan if one does ineed have a goal ... thing is , i really do not have a well defined goal ... when i left home two weeks ago i was at 120 pounds and 27% body fat ... despite all my holiday indulgences i have only gained back a couple of pounds but dont know the body fat % ... on my profile here i have a goal of 17% body fat but that was just a number i selected because it sounded much better than the 35% body fat i started off with ... so , the question is what is a respectable body fat % for me at 5'6" with a weight goal of 115 pounds as a female pushing 50 years of age .? ... OMG , 50 years old - now that's a number that was definely not predicted for me to achieve ... as i have written previously i was born with a rare genetic disorder - galactosemia which is basicly an inborn metabolic disorder ... i was never expected to live past infancy , and then the doctors kept predicting a VERTY short life span ... so here i am pushing 50 having defied all the odds and really i just dont have a plan for life itself much less a fitness plan ... and while i should be celebrating life , i find myself cursing the breath i breathe simply because i dont know what to do with myself ... some days are better than others , but this isnt one of them ... so i need a goal ....

Hi Q,
YOU are a GREAT person and GREAT friend, my dear. Don't be so hard on yourself, Q. I know I sound like the pot painting the kettle black, but just relax and do a little internet reasearch to help you with setting your goals. I think Brian gave you some EXCELLENT advice.
BUT!!! If you are insistent on going by % body fat, please go to the below link.

I don't know how recent the information is, but you may want to consider a number more between 20-22%. According to the article's chart that would put you in the lean category. Personally I think you look fabulous in your recent default photo. I honestly wouldn't go much lower, if at all.
YOU are an AMAZING person and one who meets and overcomes ALL challenges in your life. To think you weren't expected to survive very long and here you are approaching your 50th year...well I am just TOTALLY in awe of you and you are an incredible inspiration to all of us here at MFT, Q. BTW...You don't EVEN look anywhere close to 50, my friend. You are looking FABULOUS.
Just keep hanging in there and take each day as it comes and don't worry about the next day. Set small daily goals even if it is just to make a goal of working out for even 10 minutes. Build on your successes and set longer term goals, starting with weekly goals that could be something like workout 3 days a week for 30 minutes and then 40 minutes or something along those lines. Don't set yourself up for failure by setting unrealistic goals. As you achieve the shorter term and intermediate goals then the unrealistic goals may become realistic and definitely attainable. So keep that in mind, Sweetie.
I have GREAT faith and belief in you and your capabilities. Your life's history is a testament to just what you are capable of achieving and at beating insurmountable odds. Keep up the GREAT work!!!
Blessings,
Glenn :))

A Different Approach
With your current lean mass, you'd need to get down to 105# to be 17% bodyfat...not healthy!!
I wouldn't use bodyfat percentage as your primary goal. Why not try using strength, flexibility or endurance measures as keys to continued success. To be honest, it's a good goal to maintain your weight from year to year with all the temptations out there...LOL
