What's your Fitness Goal that YOU are most PROUD of?
For me, it was in December 2005, I completed the Honolulu Marathon after being bedridden with a stomach flu the day before. 2 days before it started with chills, high fever, fatigue and overall dehydration. I remember crying WHILE throwing up as I thought about the months I had dedicated to training for this one day. And perhaps, all for nothing. I hadn't eaten, I couldn't ... since I didn't have an appetite and even if I did, I couldn't even hold a glass of ginger ale down. I never prayed so hard. The night before the race, I remember asking for just enough strength and energy to wake up and make it to the start line.. if I actually could finish was or even make it halfway was another story. But at that time, all I wanted was to get out of bed and make to the start. The first 5 miles was absolute torture, but with every step I took, I began to get stronger and stronger. I had my best friend Maria with me, encouraging me throughout when during our training, I was the one who was her cheerleader. Wouldn't you know it, I made it to the finish line in 2 hours less time than the 1st time I did the same marathon in 2002.
I was inspired to write this blog when I read an article in a Women's Health Magazine and reading all the different "victories" people listed. I am curious to read what some my fellow MyFitTribers have to share as I am constantly looking to be motivated, especially by the stories of others. So c'mon MFT - hit me up and tell me one of your PROUDEST fitness goal moments... I know everyone on here has at least one!
Happy Weekend everyone!
Be blessed and bless others,

Wow
Again, another example of dedication!
I don't know how i'd rate mine compared to yours, but during indoor season in '03 (I think), I tore my left trap while learning to throw the indoor weight, bounced back 2 weeks later to be able to run the indoor 55m & 60m & beat the sprinters at their own game. That year I ended up placing 22nd for the indoor sprints from a field of 60 something sprinters. Now the reason why this is such an important fitness goal for me is because 1. I was never considered a runner to begin with. I was & am a thrower. 2. after tearing my trap, I couldn't even walk straight! 3. By the end of the indoor season (3 months) I was able to increase my spring speed by two-hundreds of a second [.2 seconds] when seasoned sprinters can't do that in 3 years. Coincedentaly, this just happened to be the same season I attained my discus record after training for the event for just one year.
wow girl
I don't think I can beat that! How in the world was that possible after being sick like that?
I finished a marathon twice, but did not meet my goal of 4 hours. The 2 marathons I did both times I had IT band pain that flared up around 15 miles into it, and had to run the rest in pain, and missed my goal by 20 minutes. I have since then given up on those, and occassionally do half marathons, my body likes those much better! :-)
I know what it's like to prepare for something like that, so great for you that you showed up at the start line, I am not sure what I would have done!
It is pretty cool though to cross the finish line, that is a huge goal for ANYONE to be proud of!
thanks Mo!
