hi ..from Melinda in Boracay!

hello everyone, I just wanted to say I am enjoying some vacation time in Boracay, which is a small island in the Philippines. Talk about culture shock! I am amazed at their eating habits and now it makes sense why they are all so small!

On the airplane the seats were so small I wondered how in the heck larger people can even visit there!
I was trying on clothes and found out I am a size Large! I wear a 0-3 in the states, and out of their 4 sizes, S, M, L, and XL, I am a large!

Their food portions are really super small. They are never concerned to much about food, it's like they eat to live, not live to eat as American's have become so customed to making what we eat a social event!
There are barely any dessert places here, and dessert is not something the locals ever eat either! Where as in Italy, man the pastry shops are everywhere and they eat them morning to night!

I was stressing out thinking I was going to have a hard time eating healthy, but I have found it is really easy. I am eating a fresh mango every morning, I omit the bacon, eat 1 slice of whole wheat toast, and 1 fried egg, and not eat the yolk. Then I eat little bites all day long, and usually have some sort of fish dinner at night. But again, when you order something, the portions are about 1/4 of the size of American dinners and don't include tons of sides. And amazingly I am never hungry and never stuffed either. it's just the right amount of food! If only we could learn to eat like that in the states. It's a lot harder because we have so many choices!

I must say though they do NOT exercise and when I was running along the beach every morning, boy do I get some looks and some giggles like they don't understand why in the world I am running around.

I don't even think I have seen another American here, first time as being a minority, which is different as well. Opens your eyes to a lot about the world.

The philipinos have a heart of gold and I am having a wonderful time here. Very blessed to be able to have this experience.

until later,
Melinda
