Full Body Workout Every other Day vs. Body part specific Every day

Hey MFT'ers... need some advice/opinions here. I really enjoy full body workouts and I shoot for 2-2.25 hours every other day mainly because I get in a groove after about 45 minutes and I just don't wanna stop(not a bad thing, I think). The "every other day" logic is because I figure my body needs that day off for recovery and rebuilding. Is this a bad strategy? Next question: I am wondering if I would benefit more from working out every day> targeting specific body parts on each day> eg, Chest and Back> Shoulders and Arms> Abs and Legs, etc...

What is the frequency that which you all work out? Do you workout at night, in the mornings or in the afternoon? Also, here is the big questions... IF you workout everyday, then as it relates to supplements, how can you take the supps on a "non-training" day if you workout everyday? Any help, advice, opinions or criticism is more than welcome!!

Thanks,

My take is that if you're trying to get big - bulk - train 3 days per week. If you're training for anything else, i'd train 4-5 times a week. In my crazy days, i'd train 5 days straight without rest. Trust me, you don't want to do that!! So take Steve's & Romah's advice if that's your intention. As for me, i'm trying to get as big as I possibly can...

Sunday - Legs & calves - morning
Tuesday - Chest & arms - morning
Thursday - Back & shoulders - night

My idea is similar to Steve's in that I work my larger & somewhat troublesome body parts early in the week. Because my back & shoulders are my strongest assets (in bodybuilding), I do them last, hit them hard & rest 2 days to fully recover for legs on Sunday. As for my abs, I do them whenever I feel like, but at least twice a week!

As for taking your supplements, I have no scientific proof, but my body always seems to utelize food much better on my off days when i'm a bit rested. With that said, i'd advise you to take your sups everyday to make sure that your body is getting what it needs when it needs it. If anything, just use a bit less on off days & the recommended amounts on training days, especially just before & just after training... hope this helps

I like Romah's split too. The biggest question bro is what your goals are. If you're trying to get lean and ripped, then to be honest I think a monday-wed-fri full body circuit is a great idea. Because your reps per set should be relatively high, which also means your recovery will be quicker. If you're doing 12+reps for each set during your fullbody workout then that sounds good.

Rest is key though and If you want to really put on size, then you'll have to do a split and maximize your resting.
Personally my split looks like this:
Mon - Chest
Tues - Arms (biceps/triceps)
Wed - Back
Thurs - OFF
Fri - Shoulders
Sat - Legs
Sun - OFF
So im 3 on, 1 off, 2 on, 1 off

Basically I never go more than 3 days without a rest day. Hmm, also I have my two largest muscle groups' workouts with a rest day following them. That means after Back, I have a rest day, and after Legs, I also have a rest day. Not to say my other workouts arent intense but the muscle groups worked then aren't as large.

you shouldnt do a fullbody program everyday, so your logic is alright...
you'd with no doubt gain more by having a split program and work out 4-6 days a week, than a fullbody program, thats just my personal opinion and i'd dump a fullbody program any day for a split...just my personal preference...

i work out early morning after having my supps and breakfast...

you dont wanna work out 7 days a week if you wanna take care of your body.
Your body needs rest and recovery, so you will need to have off-days....

me i work out monday + tuesday.....wednesday is only cardio....then thursday and friday...and having weekend off...
sometimes i work out 4 days, 1 day off, and 4 days again....but you do need off days, so you'll still take your supps even when you're not gonna work out....

Thanks alot, I appreciate the feedback. I am thinking that I will adopt a mix of full body mon-wed-fri with weekend off and then the following week go everday with a "split" mentality... so every other week i will do a full body workout every other day and a "split" on the other weeks. I want to keep my muscles guessing what is coming next and don't want them to get "use" to any particular workout.

Thanks again to everyone that responded, interested in additional feedback from others... this is all good information.

i'd say do a program 6-8 weeks before you change to another....

If you want 70% SIZE and 30% Shape and conditioning go for the bodypart
If you want 40% SiZE and 60% shape and conditioning go for full body routine , with the full body routine especially if you follow the JamCore training System you still up the weight as you evolve, gaining size and shape .

Is the training system offered on DVD? I have seen many videos on the site but they are hard to see on my laptop when working out> would love to see the videos on my 40" ;)

Thanks again. I am going to upload pics for you to look at when you have the time so that you can make what ever recommendations> I want both size and definition. Think of me as your clay> mold me with your advice, knowledge, tips, etc and I promise you that I will be open, honest and dedicated to achieving my goals. You are an inspiration, truly.
