GRAB A JUMP ROPE!!

Kelly Corson's picture

Did you know that jumping rope at 145 revolutions per minute burns about the same number of calories as running at a pace of eight minutes per mile!!!

Jumping rope is an awesome exercise that you can do virtually anywhere. And at the same time, working both your lower and upper muscle groups. While jumping rope does wonders to work your calves, quads, hams and glutes; the constant movement also tones your chest, back, shoulders, forearms, biceps and triceps.
Jumping rope will lead to improvements in agility, hand/eye/foot coordination, vertical jumping ability, hand and foot speed, fluidity of movement and timing.

This has become one of my favorite exercises. Whether it is 5-10 minutes as a warm up or longer for a more intense cardio workout, jumping rope is an amazing exercise!!

You can jump on one foot, you can jump in a square formation for more movement, you can jump higher, you can jump faster and lower.....

So, grab a rope and start jumping!!!

I used to jump rope all the time and have gotten away from it. Thanks for the reminder, I think I will do that tomorrow for my cardio!
Another thing I do, is if you have one of those ropes with a counter, I make it a game, see how many jumps you can get in 5 minutes. Take a couple minute rest, and then do another 5 minutes, and count again. If feeling up to it, do another 5 min segment. That's 15 minutes of "trying to break record" speed! I believe I read that 5 min of jump rope is equivalent to 15 min of regular cardio. and that's about equivalent to what Kelly is saying too.

My record was about 804 jumps in 5 minutes!! When doing this regularly, my average was around 750. Hard to work up to, but is an AWESOME workout!

good call!!

The ropes with the counters are awesome! You really can make a little game out of your cardio with a jump rope.....we shoudl start a contest to see who can get the highest number of jumps in 5 mins!!!
xxoo

I love jumping rope, but I must admit I suck at it. My timing is way off for such a simple exercise one would think. I keep jumping on the rope..GRRRRR

I guess it does to grab a rope that is the right length...lol
