Hey Guys!

Hey My Fit Tribers,
I've been a member for over a year, and finally here comes my first blog! I've probably been on this site atleast every other day reading all the great info and watching the videos.
Anyways I had a question for you guys, I'm lactose somewhat intolerant, and if I consume something like dairy products, or whey with high lactose are there any other problems other than gas or bloating? Or if the protein from these sources will be absorbed just as well as others?
Thanks in advance guys,
James

unless you're at top level competiton I wouldn't worry so much if it being a concentrate. Back in the late 80's early 90's we didn't have whey protein easily available to us and if we could get it, it was damn expensive!

Milk and Egg protein was the best we had then. I even used to use something called Casilan 90, sweet jesus it was disgusting. Same consistency as porridge or wallpaper paste but hardly no taste except a bad after taste

We still managed to build good physiques with this kind of protein.

So don't worry you won't lose alot of mass with a concentrate but like I said in an earlier post, vary your protein sources through the day to ensure you are getting the full array of amino acids.

Hey Jaymo,

I'm not quite sure what you mean, beacause I personaly use the same protein powder all year long, no matter what contest I'm preparing for. I only use protein powder two or three times a day, post workout being a big one, so I was just wondering about absorbtion of different whey proteins, because I'm slightly lactose intolerant, I'm just concerned about protein powders with a higher level of lactose in them, not absorbing well.
Basically what I'm saying is, I want to switch over to Scivation whey, because its cheaper, however if it doesn't absorb as well as an isolate, I'd just be wasting my money. I've been trying to figure this out for over a year now, I've read many articles on lactose intolerance, but can't find an answer.
And yes, I do vary my protein sources alot, especially now in my off-season. I also supplement amino acids.
Thanks,
James

Lactose issues...

Hey James,

Generally speaking, you "could" do well with these types of products, but lots of people experience diarrhea and other gastrointestinal issues that can alter the digestive process. It would probably be best to go with a whey protein isolate if you want protein powder or consume Lactaid milk or some yogurt. Yogurt, or even regular milk in small doses (4 ounces or less), can be tolerated well, but it really depends on the person and the severity of the intolerance.

Ya, I've been using whey isolate for quite some time, I recently tried optimum whey gold which is mixed with a bit of concentrate, and no problems. The reason I asked is because I wanted to get 10lb of scivation whey, which is mainly concentrate, because its cheaper, and I don't mind bloating, but if the absorbtion isn't as good I'll stick with an isolate.
But my lactose intolerance isn't too serious because I regularly drink milk with no problems other than bloating.

is the way to go ..but make sure its pure whey , you should be fine on it make sure you don't mix it with Milk of course !

Hey Jamo,

Ya, thats what I've been doing for quite some time now, but the concentrates are cheaper so, i was just wondering if there would be absorbtion issues.
