Supporting GoTeamMO!
Last weekend I had the opportunity to support the greatest pinay role model...Mona Liza Reyes! As you all know, she competed in the NPC USA Bodybuilding and Figure Championships in Las Vegas.
It was so surreal "meeting" a well-known figure competitor in cyberspace (Myspace and then My Fit Tribe) with us having only two things in common: an interest in fitness and her birthday being the same birthday as my husband's. Fast forward about a year and a half later...she invites me to do a workout video with her on Myfittribe.com. That was super exciting! I mean, come on...an accomplished figure competitor and role model was interested in doing a video with little ole me?? Mo iwas exactly how I was hoping she would be...humble, friendly, intelligent, positive, inspirational. Not only is she beautiful on the outside, but she's twice as beautiful on the inside! Imagine that? And you all know how beautiful she looks! That weekend was super awesome since I got to meet not just Mo, but Jamo, his gorgeous wife Rachelle, the Fit Writer Andrew Oye, and beautiful and hilarious Mayhem! They were all so genuinely nice and down-to-earth.
A few weeks after that, Dan and I went to support Mo at the Junior Cal in Pasadena, which is only 30 minutes from where I live. I got to meet Mr. Mo (Ronald) and found it hilarous that he and Dan had a ton of things in common. Well, just one main thing...basketball...but conversation never ends with them when it comes to basketball!
So last weekend, I got to meet the rest of Mo's family...her mom, her brother Levi, his girlfriend (or is it wife? I don't know...), Josh Thomson and his girlfriend. It was just so strange for me... befriending Miss Mo through cyberspace; meeting her and finding how great of a person she is and how well we get along; meeting her fiance, family, and friends and finding out how great people they are as well!
GoTeamMo is as real as it gets. It's a tight-knit group of real people consisting of moms, brothers, sisters, fiance, friends, colleagues...all with something in common: giving unconditional love and support for their daughter, fiancee, sister, and friend who is just a simple woman from San Jose with dreams, passions, and goals. She doesn't ask for much from anyone. Heck look at me...I have nothing to offer Mo. I'm not it the fitness industry. I have no "hook ups". I'm just a regular Jane Schmo who was drawn to Mo because of who she is as a person and because I look up to her as my role model. And she embraced me and Dan and took us in as family.
So I wish Mo only the BEST in her endeavors. This year has been wonderful for her and I wish her even more opportunities, more exposure, sponsorships, etc. She deserves only the best =D.

WOW... absolutely, totally
WOW... absolutely, totally unexpected to read this but I as I type this response, I am teary eyed. This means so much and reaffirms that a trophy doesn't mean much, when you have the unconditional support of family and friends and are blessed with the health, discipline and energy to even pursue the dream to compete. I am truly humbled by this blog and am so grateful that you were part of my TEAM. Mad love to you and Dan (Steve) and I know that I've got a friend for life...
You're the best!
Mona Liza "MO" Reyes
Cool!
I don't know Mo yet. But thanks for the ups.
The team look like great people. I too hope to meet them all and 'chop it up' in person - that's slang for 'hang out and talk' for those that don't know - lol.
Thanks again.
You gooo Mo!
