2carb or not 2carb - my experience with low carb dieting for my contest - MR
Hi Guys - I wanna share some of my experience on the issues of low carb dieting to loose bodyfat with u guys, so I thought I am gonna start posting a little about it.
I have been dieting for my contest for about 6 weeks now. During this time I decided to go on a 5 day low carb (max 100gr per day) and moderate carb (increase on weekends to 200-250gr) diet. I also trained pretty intense during this time and did a brutal amount of cardio (90-120mins per day!) along with 2-3 super intense training sessions in High Intensity fashion. The results have been ok, I do however have come to a sticking point and decided to increase my carbs to 250-300 per day at the cost of lowering my protein intake again down to a maximum of 150gr. My fat intake is very low and comprised of healthy fats such as a few almonds and some EFA coming from Salmon. Cardio will also change to a more intense 30mins versus the long low intense 60mins sessions that now starting to really drain me. I am trying to shock my metabolism by doing this and hope to see some fast results as i only have 4 weeks left till the contest - I will be posting pics here weekly as well as on my website (incl V-clips!) that whill show me change - lets see how this higher carb approach measures up to the low carb one I was torturing myself with.
HIT HARD!

Thanks Jamo - I will let u
Thanks Jamo - I will let u know when I get stuck again - I have seen Nick and he looks amazing! - well..for me, this will be a "comeback" type of situation - I waisted enough time here in Vegas partying and getting nowhere - I am now focused again and really only have to compete against me - looks I am going to win the battle and am psyched to see how far I can take this - this show will be a warm up for me and short term goal to get in shape - I am also planning to shoot a Video right after plus of course would love to work with u on some stuff here for your site - thx for all ur support brother!

Interesting info guys...
I know i'm not nearly as close to your levels as i'd love to be, but I think that although experimentation is a great thing, you have to be especially careful this close to competition. At this point, your body changes shape in ways that are so noticable, it's amazing to me! What's even funnier is that everybody on myfittribe seems to be going through a metamorphsis... I absolutely love it!
I'm puzzled though... when should one start cutting salt completely? Should that be cycled as well?

I have to agree with Jamo on
I have to agree with Jamo on this one - however, I try to eat potassium high foods the last 10 days before the show - trying to keep my potassium at about a 3 to 1 ratio to sodium - so for every 1000mg of potassium I am allowed to eat about 300mg of sodium - this can be naturally achieved by making sure to not add any sodium and eat foods that are high in complex carbs. Try to avoid caned tuna and salt water fish - as well as protein powders and bars - do NOT add potassium in form of supplements since this could backfire real bad and resolve in an overload of potassium that can lead to a serious heart attacke - be careful..eat clean and flush urself with a lot of water - thats about it...if I can think of more I let u know.

Salt ...
..I don't like cutting salt , and i never did when i use to compete . Cutting sodium out will flatten you out , so drinking water and keeping sodium as its is was a better choice for me and many other pros I knew . We were only cutting my sodium three days out , I never added sodium to my food (through added salt) most Sodium I got was from food . I would say three days out , drop the sodium .
Carb Intake
I feel you! I am right about where you are in terms of experimentation. I am 7 weeks out but playing around now to see what works. Everybody is different so take what I say with a grain a salt. For me, the low carb stuff does not work. I will deplete too fast and then go catabolic. I think carb cycling is the best approach but have to just hit it right before you go catabolic(the load). For me, 2 days of 100grams of carbs is MAX. Then have to hit the load.. I would not consider myself carb sensitve. As far as cardio goes... I keep that to a minimum now and let the diet and trianing do the job. I figure that is more rest time for me as recovery is important. Maybe 45 min 5ays per week at a minimum. Now, 4 days, 35 min in the morning.
Get those pics out and let me know how you do. What show are you doing? Weight class? Lt Heavy?
Ken
Hi Ken - I am doing the
Hi Ken - I am doing the Musclemania Superbody on June22 in Miami. I will be competing in the Pro Division without any weightclass - my weight does not matter - the mirror of course counts - I will give the higher carb approach till next week thursday and if my fat loss has dramatically increased will of course stick to it - if I dont see any better results with it I guess will move it back to what I did before - dont get me wrong..the low carb diet did work and I even think I gained some muscle with it believe it or not - I just think its a good idea to shock my body for a while and see - I have tried that before in previous shows and it worked too - I will post images here weekly to see a comparison from now till contest as well as post video of me training and posing on my site at www.markusreinhardt.com
