When Scenes Are Not What's Seen

The older I get, the more I think. My kids (I say 'mine' even though I know they belong to someone else) these kids remind me to look within for answers. In my Literary Genre class, we think a great deal. It may not always go in the ways I had aimed for, but the outcomes are always what we ALL needed in that moment.

Busy, busy

Happy Halloween!

Been awhile since I had time or made time to blog. Got lots of irons in the fire. Took some time off training and feel even better. Am up about 3 pounds, but not too worried. I manage to fluctuate between 129 and 135. Got lots of students interested in fitness. That really makes my day when someone notices the hard work I have put in. I get more motivated the more I motivate others!

“The Importance of Mammograms”
By Teri LaFaye
c September 27, 2009

After a recent mammogram that came back abnormal, I became more and more convinced of how little I knew about breast cancer prevention. I underwent two mammograms and two ultrasounds with results by two different doctors requesting the same follow-up procedure for further diagnosis.

good news!

Got the results from the breast tissue biopsy and it was benign fibrocystic tissue. That is a BIG relief!
I am still very bruised and sore from the biopsy. But will bounce back quickly.

Hugs to all,
Teri

bulimia and teens

sassyonyx's picture

Being a teacher in high school, I encounter many disorders...everything from cutters to bulimics. I have a 10th grader who is a struggling bulimic. You would never know if she didn't tell you or trust you with the information.

Eating disorders are rampant everywhere. How we help others is through educating ourselves and know the signals to trigger responses to the silent out cries most feel.

For more information on how to identify or help someone suffering from bulimia, here's a website wealthy with healthy information:

Rantings and Ravings UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!
Current mood: crappy
Category: Blogging

My horoscope said it "wasn't all about me..."
It must be true cause I just lost the whole post I had written.

My day sucked! Not if, ands, or buts about it.....it just sucked!

I thought I would be able to work. I was hurting, but thought I would be okay. I wasn't. I was crying before I got in the door good. I hate to cry in public. I don't like being sick. And I detest taking pain medicine that makes me feel like I am doped up! All of which, I did today.

Importance of Mammograms

Tomorrow's biopsy

The importance of getting yearly mammograms is for prevention.
I have had 3 abnormal ones since July 27th. So, tomorrow I am going in
for a biopsy on a knot they saw on my mammogram in my right breast.

It cannot be felt because it is in the deep tissue; so that is good and bad. Breast density tends to run in family trees.

The biopsy will tell what the ultrasounds and mammograms cannot. Then, I will go from there.

It is important to note that the old saying 'an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.'

Just got my story published on another site...

BACK FAT! And how I got rid of mine....

BACK FAT! And how I got rid of mine....

When I first started working out I hated mostly that jelly roll of fat across my middle back and mid-drift area.

You know what I am talking about.....I could not wear a snug shirt without feeling like everyone would be watching my jello jiggle!

To date, in those areas alone, I have lost 13.5 INCHES!!! Consistency, determination, and a git-r-done attitude helped in the process.

Desk Workouts and Exercises

sassyonyx's picture

Calf raises are good and keep the blood circulating in the legs. (Learned that on the airplane information booklet traveling.)With feet flat on floor, come up on toes, stetch calf muscle and count to about 15, and then release down and repeat.

Another exercise that tones the pelvic muscles is to pretend you are holding yourself from going to the bathroom, squeeze in, and release. This is an easy exercise that goes unnoticed and benefits a woman tremendously.

Rolling your ankles also will help your calves.

Up-ing MY GAME for increasing my gains! I AM SORE! LOL

Up-ing MY GAME for increasing my gains! I AM SORE! LOL

OMG! I am sore all over and in places I thought I had worked before, but evidently NOT!

Geez! I uped my program for legs recently and increased my lunges, squats, and the weight amount I use, sets and the reps.

My thighs and glutes are SCREAMING "got u!" every time I go to the restroom, which by the way is no longer a pleasant experience LOL.

Wonder if this is why guys pee standing up! OWWWWWW! lol

Give me two days...and I will be tip top and ready for leg day again.

FOR TODAY----I Will....

sassyonyx's picture

For today, I will LOVE the skin I am in!
For today, I will not compare myself to anyone else.
For today, I will look for the good in others to find the good in myself.
For today, I will let my thoughts reflect the person I am inside.
For today, I will remember the only person I can depend on
Is the person in the mirror.
To this day for me, I will love myself
For today will be tomorrow too soon.
For Today

Motivation....what's your MOTIVE?

sassyonyx's picture

You know, some days, it is just difficult to get going. Like everything you do is moving in reverse or worse not moving at all. Ever feel like your "get up and go" got up and left???
I have plenty of days like that. I am not going to lie to you!

Especially on cloudy days, man, that is the worst for me! Seems I piddle here and piddle there, and well, just give out. Notice, I said 'give out' not GIVE IN. And this is where the difference lies.

How awesome! I am 49 today!!!

In the silence of the Nile I was awakened...

sassyonyx's picture
The Nile River in route to Aswan, Egypt

While on the Nile River listening to the QUIET, I understood the meaning of the African proverb, "Silence is also a form of speech." The silence of the Nile, the immersing in the silence, the being with the silence, was like sitting next to god. The magnitude of the emotions I felt cannot be put into words.
