Changing it up!

fmaxs's picture

Hey MFT-

The last few months have been awesome in terms of training and nutrition, I more or less stuck to real basic weight lifting and clean foods and have seen great results.

But I am ready for a change now. I wnat to construct a routine that is more about actual activity vs. size or a look.

For eaxmple I was thinking maybe-

Monday- OFF
Tuesday- Upper Body Conditioning
Wednesday- Long Run
Thursday- Upper Body Conditioning
Friday- Core/Lower Body work
Saturday- Long ride in hills
Sunday- Play sports, swim, hike, whatever.

What do you guys think?

I'm back

HEY MFT!

Sorry for the absence, I have missed everyone.

Well the great news is that after years in being on the vendor side, one of my largest clients made me a great offer to come work for them, so the transition has had me swamped.

But I have to say this has been an amazing change and has put me in a better place on so many levels.

One of the awesome benefits is the Golds Gym 6 minutes away. So with the new job I make it a point to hit the gym early and have to say my training has also reaches a new level and I am loving it. Will blog more later.

Have a great weekend

Hey MFT

Just wanted to wish everyone a great weekend. This in my mind has been a huge week for MFT, so many great new posts and members, not to mention the awesome new vids from Clark and everyone.

Finish Strong and Lean into IT!

Hey MFT

I had to share this with all, this weekend I attended Clark Bartram's fitness model event, and I have only one word to describe it- OUTSTANDING.

Well organized, professional, and entertaining. Clark has amazing energy and it was great to meet him and see how genuine he is.

I also had the oppourtunity to meet Lana Titus who many of have seen on the video workouts, she was also fun to meet and very engaging. Rick Schaff was also there and it was awesome to see him in action as a judge.

Iron and Calcium in Men

fmaxs's picture

Hey MFT, I recently learned that excess Iron and Calcium in men can lead to kidney stones, is this true?

If so, should men reduce iron and calcium in their meals?

Back on the Iron, what about food?

fmaxs's picture

Hey hey MFT:

Well withe whole Sheriff thing now in the past, time to move on get back to the gym. I decided over the weekend to get back on the iron and get back to my goal of competing some day- so here is my training split and I was hoping for spme guidance on meals.

While I was prepping for the academy I was doing a lot of running and functional full body rutines, so yes I lost some fat but also some of my muscle, so time to pack some muscle back on while at the same time being very conservative on my meals so I can avoid any unwanted pounds.

Training split-

Monday- Chest/Bi's

Sorry no go

Hey MFT-

Thanks to everyone's support and enouragement on my efforts to get onto to the Sheriff's department, especially Jamo who went above and beyond to help me with my training.

Yesterday I did get a letter telling me that due to some of the mistakes I made a long time ago, I willnot be able to continue the process.

I have never been arrested or anything but I guess there were too many littte dumb things that added up did not look good.

Great Session

fmaxs's picture

I wanted to share the great session I had yesterday evening, it was intense but the feeling was awesome!

First things first- The Jamcore warmup- very important.

Circuit 1 x 3 non stop

Deadlifts w/135lbs
Decline Board Crunches with med ball toss

Circuit 2 x 3 non stop
Bar Dips
Alternating hand med ball push ups

Circuit 3 x 3 non stop
Plyo Box jumps
Pull ups

Lying leg lifts with olympic bar held stright up above you as in the up poistion of a bench press.
as many sets as it took to get to 100 reps

Treadmill Running

fmaxs's picture

There is an opinion amongst many that view the treadmill as a useless part of a running program, few however dispute it's place for light post workout cardio, etc...

As a former competitive runner, Marine, and now preparing for the Sheriff's academy, I am all to familiar with this opinion. You consatntly hear: "the treadmill does nothing for you other than break a sweat, etc..".

Your thoughts MFT....

fmaxs's picture

Hey everyone, great seeing al the new videos and the blogs.

Anyway as many of you know I am in the process of getting into the Sheriff's department and am now in the background phase, which is to stay the least the hardest part.

That being said I have really changed my training regimen to gear it towards the academy which is quasi-militart in terms of running, obsatcle courses, calisthenics, etc...

Done!!!

fmaxs's picture

First off thanks to all with their kinds words on my earlier blog.

I passed the physical agility for the Sheriiff's department (Riverside County, CA)

Next on to the background investigation. In the meantime I need to really focus my training around running, calisthenics, etc.... So a total restructure of my training.

Again thanks to all, it was 100% on my mind how much support we all get here at MFT.

Wish me luck MFT

Hey MFT, so tomorrow morning I will be taking the physical agility exam for the Sheriff's department.

I'll have to get over a 6 foot wall, a 6 foot chain link fence, a 165lb body drag, and a 1.5 mile run in under 13 minutes.

I'm took yeterday off as well as today and plan on a good meal tonight and lots of rest.

Tuesday I did a lot of pull ups, dips, lunges, and some med ball work followed by a 2 mile run which I did in under 18 mins.

Over the weekend I ran 4 miles at a 9 minute mile pace.

I'm both excited and nervous!

JAMO looking good!

fmaxs's picture

I just picked up the new issue of Muscle and Fitness, and there he is our very own Jamo. Looks awesome!!

What is especially cool, is that Jamo included allof us in his diet and training as he prepared for this shoot, so when you see the pics, you really gain a strong respect for what went into looking like that.

Great Stuff!!!!!!!!!!!

REST- to train or not

fmaxs's picture

So you had a bad night, got no sleep, all day you are dragging your butt to stay awake at work. So the big question is---------

At the end of the day do you:

a. Go home eat and go to bed, start fresh tomorrow,

or

b. Go pound an energy drink and still hit the gym?

Running Question

fmaxs's picture

Hello MFT:

I know all too well the benefits of doing cardio AFTER lifting or on non lifting days. But assuming my goal right now is to improve my running ad develop more functional and explosive stength, is there a downside to running FIRST.

Years ago my build was more lean and cut and that is exactly how I trained, it ws not until I got into body bulding aspirations that I changed that. However I really have re-examined my goals and a more athletic build with strong athletic performance is my goal.
