Feeling Tired? Think Thyroid!
If you find it’s always difficult to drag yourself out of bed for that 5 AM session at the gym, it may not be that you’re lazy. Having a hard time waking up, especially if you have gotten 7-8 hours of sleep is a typical symptom of an under-active thyroid gland. Other signs are: feeling cold all of the time or having cold hands and feet, foggy thinking, as well as dry skin especially on the heels and/or elbows. The most common complaint I hear is putting weight on easily and then having a great deal of trouble taking it off despite hours of cardio and dieting.
If these symptoms sound like you, have it checked out. Ask your doctor to do a blood test but make sure he checks the actual thyroid hormone levels, especially the “free T-3” which is the active hormone. Often docs just do a screening test called a TSH which is not as informative and may miss some cases of under-active thyroid or hypothyroidism.
If you’re low, treatment is simple and safe - a daily pill containing some thyroid hormone. If your test result is normal, guess what - you ARE lazy!

NOT lazy!
I've been treated for Hashimoto's thyroiditis for years. I am lucky enough to have the infamous Nathan Becker M.D. as my endo. For years, I had "borderline normal" thyroid panels. Very frustrating, as I had a myriad of symptoms, and family history of thyroid cancers both paternal and maternal lines. I was finally referred to Dr. Becker, who has restored my thyroid function to normal. He works more of a patient's symptoms than their labs. He explained to me that what is "normal" for one person, may be "hypo" for another, and that the range used to measure thyroid function in lab tests is not difinitive. As a "borderline normal" thyorid person, treating me with meds was the difference I needed. It was a miracle! For YEARS I struggled with symptoms that I won't go into, but within 2 weeks of being on cytomel and synthroid, i had my life back!
I do get extremely cold
I do get extremely cold hands and feet from time to time to the point my friends think I locked my hand inside a deep freezer, but I have no problems getting out of bed, nor do I gain weight. What's that about?
I have
a good friend that was diagnosed with thyroid disease. She was always really thin and then, ballooned. Come to find out, it is hereditary (the kind she has) and after her daughters were tested, one of them had it too.
I am tested every year with my blood work. I believe in pre-maintainence (lol)! Mine came back excellent about a month ago. I am always happy of that.
Great information, Darren! and I LOVE YOUR CONCLUSION ! hee-hee

LOL!!!!
Loved the ending doc! haha. This is a good bit of information to know. I'm feeling pretty tired today despite eating and exercising, it's probably due to my '15-minute power nap' that turned into an hour and a half.
Also, lately I've been feeling like whatever I eat just doesnt want to digest. I use to be able to eat an hour before going to teh gym and feel fine. Now I feel queezy, and even tried waiting 2 hours til the gym, but i still feel queezy and lacking energy. Is there anything that predominately causes this feeling? Or is it a shot in the dark to try and guess?

But on a serious note. Do you think it might be all the extra chemicals and crap your body has to digest and get rid of ? it does a number on your immune system. Remember that about 80% of your immune system is through digestion?
What's your coffee intake been lately? How consistent has it been lately?
Did you start eating natural foods too right? If so, then along the same lines as my first point, once you go BACK to real foods, your body has been used to chemicals all the time, so im' sure its done some type of major adjust with your acidity levels, and enzyme secretion levels.
Don't make me post a pic of all the boxes and bags of "things" lining in the corner of your room on the web! :)
Im talkin before you went to Trader Joes & Whole Foods ;)
Also, lets not forget you've been doing cardio a lot lately in the mornings. That makes your metabolism BOOST! I know this from experience. I'm super hungry throughout the days when I do that, which are most days.
Also, you might try this. We train like freaks. Im sure over the past year or more our CNS is shot like bia. I was thinking of that again this morning when you almost took off into a SPRINT the minute you stepped onto my elliptical. You didnt slowly warm up, and it wasn't moderate intensity to burn fat like we usually suggest for precontest cardio.
Maybe your "shot in the dark" isn't 100% correct since we have a lot of thigns to work with here, but who knows what it is. Its hard too decide too, since so many things seem to have changed lately.

possibly..
its not from teh stuff i've been taking that i buy from GNC, because i've been doing that for four months at least now, its just recently like the past few days that i've noticed an onset of fatigue regardless of my nutritional intake.
I bet it either has to do with my chemistry getting tossed around from the last two weeks of raw / organic borderline vegan food intake (aside from morning and postworkout meals).
I"m wondering about L-Tyrosine, its supposed to help your nervous system. MOre research will be needed :D.
