Erectile Dysfunction and Younger Folks

tribe doc's picture

That’s right, ED is not just for the old guys anymore! In fact, I am willing to bet may tribe members and well as some of the hot bods that grace these web pages suffer from ED from time to time.

In a study survey of 234 men aged 18-25 at three Chicago universities headed by Najah Senno Musacchio, MD, of Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago, 13% reported ever having difficulty getting or keeping an erection and 25% reported ever losing an erection while putting on a condom.

Aside from the effects of recreational drugs, alcohol and cigarette smoking, anxiety is the most common reason for young guys to have trouble whereas stress and being overworked are the most common reasons for men in their late twenties and thirties. Diabetes and heart disease can also be physiological reasons for ED. In addition, guys who have taken anabolic hormones for athletic and body building purposes may find themselves with very low levels of testosterone when they are not cycling and this may cause ED. Obesity, due to the conversion of testosterone into estrogen in fat cells, can also lead to ED.

Before buying some Viagra off the Internet it is best to check with your doctor. All drugs including ED drugs, have side effects-Viagra has, in rare instances even caused blindness. If your ED is due to low testosterone levels it is best to get testosterone supplementation as low testosterone levels can lead to more problems than just ED including heart disease and high blood pressure and these conditions are not treated by ED drugs. If stress is the reason for your subpar performance, its best to get help with the stress, perhaps a few sessions with a trained counselor can help.. If stress is not addressed it will come out in another form which may be more health compromising.

Bottom line, if you have ED regardless of your age, you are not alone and great help is available.

A great article Doc, Lot of the guys think they should avoid this topic because it makes them seem likely they are not manly enough. Articles like these should always be posted and people should realize the importnace of this and they have a problem, they can get this checked out.

a great article. So many people tend to stay away from subjects like this because of pride or whatever.
It is great to know that help is available when people are ready to find it!

You're right, many people stay away from the uncomfortable questions like this or like "what is the effect of this twinkie on my health?" The point is, as tribe members know, it makes a huge difference if you make a habit of ignoring what your body is telling you, whether it is your belt size or your problems in bed.

Great article Doc!

It's very important to be aware of the side effects, because while sometimes rare at worst, they're still possible and it's always important to weigh the benefits vs. the side effects.

Great recommendations for alternative solutions (as well as far healthier).
Stuff like this is good to know!

Good point! As a doctor I took an oath to "first, do now harm" but it amazes me how cavalier many docs are to pull out the prescription pad even though the real problem is not being addressed and even though "adverse drug reactions" is one of the leading causes of death in this country!
