Overcoming Weight Loss Resistance

tribe doc's picture

If you’re eating properly and exercising regularly but can’t seem to lose weight or have reached a plateau and can’t get the scale to move any further, you may need some help. I’m not talking liposuction, although that can be helpful especially when there is a problem area rather than just extra fat all over. What I am talking about is internal metabolic derangements caused by hormonal imbalances or toxic element contamination.

Difficulty losing weight is a common symptom of patients with a variety of hormonal imbalances. Besides thyroid deficiency, low testosterone, estrogen/progesterone imbalances, and excess cortisol levels (due to chronic stress) can all make it very difficult for you to reach your weight goals. Speak to your doctor, he can easily test to see if you have one of these conditions and treat you for them.

Chronic toxic exposure to heavy metals, pesticides and other environmental contaminants can also cause metabolic derangements including weight gain as well as a whole host of other maladies including impaired memory, skin conditions, cancer and more. I am frequently amazed at the high levels of these poisons in our bodies even in patients that eat and live well. I have started a detoxification program for this very reason and patients do tend to lose 10-15 lbs while on the program.

In addition, I encourage everyone to look into zeolites as a daily supplement to help remove heavy metals and pesticides from the body. Difficulty losing weight may be an issue in itself, it also may be a sign of a bigger problem, do yourself a favor - be proactive and check it out.

I think diet control

Avisha's picture

I think diet control naturally is the best means of weight loss and maintaining a healthy weight. Or else have to turn to procedures like liposuction or have appetite suppressants and do other forms like smart lipo

I'm interested in this.

I've had such a horrible time losing weight, despite daily training and cardio. Like another commentator, I also have been gaining weight. I had my thyroid checked but the levels were normal, although I have several other symptoms of thyroid disorder. I'm at my wits end, but this has me interested. I wonder if I should try this out.

zeolites and detoxification

whatagrl's picture

I'm interested in learning more about what specific detox programs are available and effective (am assuming you aren't at liberty to "plug" any one program, as the one you are using). That said, i will definitely look into zeolites.
Years ago, I began putting on weight, "inexplicably". I hadn't changed my exercise or eating habits much. I was tested and found to be hypothyroid, PCOS, and insulin resistant.... but also came up that my "copper" levels were high. Nothing for the latter was ever recommended. I have a very stubborn weight thermostat, which even Byetta has not helped to budge. Recently, I have found success in losing pounds with alternate day calorie restriction. Now I'd like to look into zeolits as well. Thanks for the info!

Desperate

tyleranne's picture

I am emtremely frustrated because no matter what I do, I cannot lose weight. And to make things worse, every time I try to, I gain 5 pounds. I constantly gain weight in increments of 5. But I can't lose a single pound.

I do have a thyroid disease, which I'm sure is the cause of this. But my endocrinologist will not give me any kind of replacement medication. She is waiting for my body to COMPLETELY kill my thyroid before she will do anything. So, in the meantime, I am just getting bigger and bigger and there doesn't seem to be anything that I can do about it.

Surely there is something I can do! I just turned 20 years old and don't want to waste my youth being this way. I'm so tired of looking like this and feeling this way. Does anyone know anything that I can do? Anything that anyone knows about will be greatly appreciated. I am so frustrated and desperate; there must be SOMETHING I can do...

How do you know

chirosche's picture

when possible toxic substances have been removed from the body once you start taking zeolites. Is it something we should use daily on an ongoing basis or stop after a specific time period? I'm sure we are exposed to toxins everyday so I can imagine that it could be used for protection as well as cleansing existing toxins in the body.

Beverly

That's an excellent question!

tribe doc's picture

And one that is not easily answered. You see, you are correct, we are exposed to toxins on a daily basis and these do get stored in the body, particularly in fat. As a result, blood levels and urine levels only reflect very recent exposure, not toxic exposure in the past nor the total amount of toxins (the toxic burden) in the body. To see if you have a significant toxic burden, it is necessary to do a challenge test-forinstance take an oral dose of EDTA in the evening and collect urine over night and in the morning. The EDTA will draw toxins (particularly heavy metals) out of storage and allow them to be removed in the urine. If there is a significant amount of toxins in the urine, that is proof of a toxic burden that should be treated with zeolites or chelation.
Alternatively, as we are exposed to toxins on a daily basis, my own personal approach is what you suggested, use zeolites as a preventive, proactive, health maintaining part of your daily regimen and skip all the testing unless there is a significant health challenge that needs looking into.
By the way, I am interestd in what you are doing and your websites, I do not believe it is possible to be truly physically healthy unless one is spiritually and emotionally healthy as well.-can you tell me what they are?

Good article Doc!!

Stevers's picture

I liked this article. You know I started a detoxification system two weeks ago and I'm not sure if its working but if I get the benefits it claims to give, then I'll be glad when its over and my body is healthier.

I read Chromium picolinate helps to blunt cortisol levels if you take it after your workout, do you agree with this?
I sometimes feel like I'm getting an anxiety attack after my workouts. It usually occurs when I'm home relaxing, all of a sudden my chest just gets tight (like it does when you're emotionally distraught) and I have to breathe deep.

I dont know if maybe I'm subconsciously worrying about stuff or if its just a chemical imbalance. What do you think? Or what questions can I answer to possibly narrow it down more to possible causes?

Your post exercise anxiety

tribe doc's picture

is most probably due to low blood sugar, and chromium, which helps stabilize blood sugar levels by increasing the muscle cells's sensitivity to insulin may well help. It is not necessary to take it before or after workouts, just taking 200-400 mcg each day will be adequate any time of the day. I would also suggest trying D-ribose or a low glycemic carb snack before or just after working out (in addition to some protein).
Anxiety can be due to other causes, though, and it would be prudent to make sure its not related to your heart. Any associated symptoms like chest pain, nausea, light headedness, breaking out in a sweat, would increase the importance of getting checked out by your doctor. That aside, you might try omega-3 fish oils 3000 mg in divided doses. (see my article at www.vibrancemedicalgroup.com on the subject)

Is there any way

chirosche's picture

to find out about heavy metals in the blood through a blood test or does it have to be from the hair? Are their kits for taking this test available that does not necessitate a visit to the doctors' office. I recently over the past two years gained about 15 lbs and it's been very difficult to get it off. It was mentioned to me that cortisone injections (a treatment by a dermatologist) over a period of a year could be what caused the weight gain. I've worked out for years and have never had so much trouble losing weight.

I take Omega 3 daily and have found noticeable results for dry skin and some form of dermatitis seems to disappear but comes back when I stop taking it. It seems to make the skin very supple and smooth. Works better than lotions or creams.

I'd just really like to know if there is convenient way to test the blood for heavy metals and what is your opinion about the foot detox pads for removing metals and toxins from the body.

weight gain and dry skin

tribe doc's picture

Beverly,
Please see my other reply to you as well. Difficulty losing weight and dry skin are two symptoms of a thyroid deficiency. I suggest you have your thyroid gland checked and request from your doctor that she check your "free T3"-this is the active hormone, in my opinion it is the most important thyroid test as it is the final say on whether or not your thyroid is functioning optimally. If the results of this test are in the bottom half of normal and you have these symptoms, I think it woud be very reasonable to start on a trial of thyroid supplementation and see how you feel.

I do take omega-3s and will try to space my timing out. I will look into d-ribose and I greatly appreciate the information given here especially concerning anxiety. I've not had any of the other symptoms aside from the "tight chest" so I am hoping this is due to low blood sugar but I will be ever-mindful of the other associated symptoms.
