Antibiotics Cause Vitamin Deficiencies

tribe doc's picture

While its flu season and many tribe members may be encouraged to take some antibiotics to get better, it is important to consider whether this is really the best course of action. First, colds and the flu are due to a viral infection. Viruses are not killed by antibiotics, only bacteria are. If you do not have a bacterial infection you are not only wasting your time and money, you're increasing the likelihood that a more resistant, more virulent bacterial infection will get a foot hold since you've killed off the weaker as well as beneficial bacteria in the process. Although rare, these more resistant bacterial infections can be life threatening.
In addition, treating with antibiotics leads to nutritional deficiencies including deficiencies of B vitamins, Vitamin K, calcium, zinc, magnesium, and iron depending on what antibiotic is taken.
It makes sense, therefore, that if antibiotics are properly indicated that patients take extra B vitamins, minerals, and also probiotics to restore the healthy bacteria to the gut.

Very breif and concise!
I do not like to take medicines period and this is why. We've always learned in Bio classes that viruses do not cause common colds and flus and cannot be treated with antibiotics.
Sometimes symptoms get pretty bad unfortunately, but it doesnt last forever. Limit when and how much of antibiotics you take, and try to eat more on the days you're sick and eat nutrient dense foods, this way you get your vitamins and minerals. I know its hard to eat when you're sick, but you actually need more calories then, as your body needs to produce more antibodies and immune-system cells to fight off the infenctions.

Excuse Me!

Influenza and common colds are caused by a virus called a Rhinovirus. The route of entry is the respiratory tract. Then, the virus binds to receptors called intracellular adhesion molecule-1 on the respiratory epithelial cells. When the virus is already bound to the receptor, it is going to start replicating and spreading throughout your system. Your cells will start to get infected and will release distress signals called chemokines and cytokines. When this happens, your inflammatory mediators are activated. Within 8 to 9 hours, symptoms begin to occur such as runny nose, sniffing, headache, malaise, muscle aches and loss of appetite. VIRUSES CAUSE COMMON COLDS! Peace to all tribe members.

Sorry, typo :D.

According to the context of my reply, i meant that they do cause viruses since my whole point, was that my opinion stands that theres no sense to taking drugs to cure these symptoms because they're caused by viruses which cannot be killed by antibiotics. Thus you're just masking the problem, which can make it worse.

Pain lets you know you're still alive :D
