Sure, most of us enjoy having sugary treats once in a while. But if you want to cut back, you need to know all of the names sugar goes by, or you may end up consuming more than you expected! Excess sugar is linked to many diseases, such as cardiovascular disease and Type 2 Diabetes. Also, as mentioned in an earlier article on MyFitTribe, a recent study found that restricting glucose extended the lifespan of some worms by up to 25%. If these results were duplicated in human studies, this would equal about an extra 15 years of life. For those of you that want to reduce your sugar intake, here is a list of many of the different forms of sugar to look for on product packaging:

· barley malt

· beet sugar

· brown sugar

· buttered syrup

· cane juice crystals

· cane sugar

· caramel

· carob syrup

castor sugar

· corn syrup

· corn syrup solids

· date sugar

· dextran

· dextrose

· diatase

· diastatic malt

· ethyl maltol

· fructose

· fruit juice

· fruit juice concentrate

· glucose

· glucose solids

· golden sugar

· golden syrup

· grape sugar

· high-fructose corn syrup

· honey

· invert sugar

· lactose

· malt syrup

· maltodextrin

· maltose

· mannitol

· molasses

· raw sugar

· refiner's syrup

· sorbitol

· sorghum syrup

· sucrose

· sugar

· turbinado sugar

· yellow sugar

... oh my gawwwwd.! ... no wonder i'm so adddicted to sugar with it hiding behind all THOSE nasty little names ... well that certainly explains in part my status of skinny fat person ... seriously as i've said before ,i do struggle with the sugar issue , but mainly just in my ice tea like the true southern belle i am ... of course as i scan the list a second time that darn fruit juice pops up at me yelling na na na boo boo , i've got you .! ... BUT, the good news for me is now i'm down to one third of a cup versus a FULL cup of sugar i dumped into a gallon of tea ... i tried cold turkey to quit the sugar , but got the shakes reallly bad ... ADMIN on here suggested i try putting less and less sugar in the tea and it is working ... so a great big THANK YOU to Admin and to you too Jamo for this post ... and to the good doc Darren , thank you for the sugar/ women analogy ... it sorta does put a different perspective on the sugar issue ... so thank you too .! ...

You're welcome suzeQ, and you might give stevia a try, it is a sugar subsitute that is much sweeter than regular sugar so you use less of it.

I'm the complete opposite, I

I'm the complete opposite, I get shakes from having too much sugar. I think my daily intake of sugar is less than 20g. If I ever drink a soda(which I rarely do) I'd start bouncing off the walls!

haha same

My daily intake probably hardly ever exceeds 20g as well.....I barely drink soda, only a few times a year now...and when I do..wow i get hyped up lol...most people's bodies are so used to it that it has no effect on them, but when you usually dont have as much sugar in a day as the amount thats in a drink, it really messes with you haha

not all sugars are equal!

I hate to complicate things so just remember fruits and vegetables are the best source of carbs and sugar. You see, if I were a chauvinist, I'd say sugars are like women-some of them like high fructose corn syrup are sweet and naughty and some, like fructose are sweet but also nice. High fructose corn syrup has fructose mixed with glucose, fructose alone though is sweet but is utilized more slowly by the body, leading to a slower rise in blood sugar, leading to a lower rise in insulin levels, leading to less fat gain, less inflammation and less disease.
In addition, mashed potatoes are worse than msot fruits because the body breaks the potatoes down very quickly so don't be fooled by how sweet something is.
I told you, they're just like women!
