Preventing Gum Disease

Many of us that take the time to look after our bodies through exercise and proper nutrition still don’t pay enough attention to looking after our teeth. Gum disease (also known as periodontal disease) is the main cause of tooth loss, and has been linked to heart disease and strokes. There are two stages of gum disease: gingivitis, which is characterized by red swollen and puffy gums, and periodontis, which is an advanced stage of gum disease that includes bone loss and is not reversible.

Some of the symptoms of gum disease include bad breath, red and swollen gums that bleed easily, gums separating from the teeth, loose teeth, and change in your bite. The best way to prevent gum disease is to brush twice a day, floss at least once per day, and see your dentist for regular dental cleanings and check-ups. Ideally, you should see your dentist and hygienist every 6 months. This is especially important if you have risk factors that make you more susceptible to gum disease. These risk factors include tobacco and alcohol use, diabetes, pregnancy, and poor oral hygiene.

If it’s been a while since you’ve been to the dentist, make an appointment today. It’s much easier and less costly to prevent problems before they occur, and remember that you only have one set of teeth!

Its true! Inflammation of the gums can lead to heart disease more certainly than high cholesterol will lead to heart disease! See your dentist regularly!

I hate floss =D

I hate floss, I don't have too much space between my teeth, it’s difficult to pass the floss, but I will try to do more times.

So many people hate to floss and think that brushing is enough,it takes very little effort to sit in bed or infront of the T.V and floss your teeth, you will be surprised how much food gets trapped inbetween your teeth.it's not enough to just flick the floss in and out make sure you follow the ^ contour front and back of each tooth!! Nobody wants to kiss a stinky mouth so brush for 2minutes and floss daily!! xoxoxo
