Your Health Is In Your Own Hands
Stanford University gerontologist Dr. Moira Fordyce recently asserted in the LA Times that 70% of aging problems are due to lifestyle choice. Though genetics do play a role, your inherited traits are only responsible for 30% of geriatric issues. This news should serve as a powerful motivator for our MyFitTribe community. What we’re doing to keep our bodies in shape can help us retain good health well into our golden years, and actually increase our lifespan.
Here are some factors that can allow us to take control of our health:
- Body type
- Exercise
- Cancer-screening tests
- Cholesterol
- Blood pressure
- Smoking
- Excessive drinking
- Nutritional habits
All of these factors have been found to compromise good longevity genes when abused. That’s why it’s even more important to take control of our health now, keep a low-fat, high-fiber diet, make healthy lifestyle choices, and get regular check-ups and screenings to head off risks.

I couldn't have said it better myself-this is exactly what I've been telling anyone who will listen to me and even those who won't! The Am Heart Assoc says 90% of what we spend on heart disease alone ($300 BILLION in 2002) could be saved by paying attention to diet and exercise! Need I say more?
