What’s a flexitarian?

One of the newest crazes in trendy eating is going ‘flex’. A flexitarian’s diet staples are mainly vegetables and other non-meat products that are high in fiber and low in saturated fat. However, they permit themselves small, healthy portions of meat on certain occasions. The focus of the flexitarian diet is on produce instead of protein, and experts believe this may be the underlying factor that causes ‘flex’ dieters to excel in terms of fitness. Flexitarians are more likely to weigh less, have lower rates of heart disease and related ailments, and are less likely to have diabetes. Moreover, flexitarians even have lower rates of prostate and colon cancer.

Flex? No not that kind.

How can you eat flex? It’s simply, experts say. Make sure you consume meatless meals at least four days per week. Focus on whole grains, high fiber vegetables, and fresh produce as often as possible. When you do consume meat, make sure you’re getting an adequate amount of protein per portion or serving. Don’t sacrifice quality for quantity, which can be easy to do, especially when eating out. Do set rules for your carnivorous moments – for example, some flexitarians find it helpful to maintain the rule that at home, they cook all veggie – but when dining at friends’ or family members’ homes, they can eat meat. With these tips, you’ll be enjoying the healthy, active life of a flexitarian in no time!

Flexatarian?

I was vegan from 1997 to 2002 and that was just too much diet involvement, to keep everything balanced, ya know? Now I pretty much eat as described here but this is the first time I've heard this term " Flexatarian " You may want to copyright that Kristina! Its an interesting term but... does it still apply for me? One who sometimes even has a breakdown and eats the highly dreaded MACDONOLDS???? Or worse even yet ... the PIZZA BUFFET!???! ( arrrrrg! ) OH well Monday I start a radiation free chemo therapy which will be like having the flu for 48 weeks...any tips on keeping my motivation UP? Its so nauseating that keeping weight ON ( and food down ) will be the problem soon. By the way its kind of hard to see you well in the pic here but I can see its safe to say...Nice Arm Development Lady!... Michael T

I just found out what a flexitarian was a week ago

This article is a more in depth view of what i learned about a flexitarian. I was reading that John Berardi was going to be doing a vegan diet, with the exception of having 3 eggs and a slice of cheese in the morning with breakfast. When others found out about him having the eggs and cheese they started complaining and critisizing him, he then decided he'd forget what he said about what kind of diet it was called and said he'd make it like a flexitarian's diet.

Great article, i'm glad i found it when i was doing my homework. I needed an article for accelerated biology so i came here and found one
