Harrison Ford: The Unlikely Hero?

60 is the new 40, according to certain fitness experts. By staying active and fit throughout middle-age, senior citizens and soon-to-be-seniors are leading healthy lifestyles that include intense workouts well into their lives.

Among the leaders of this new charge is Harrison Ford, who turned 65 this year. Despite his hexagenerian status, Ford is currently filming the fourth installment of the Indiana Jones series. Along with other old-is-the-new-young stars like Jane Fonda and Meryl Streep, Ford represents a growing trend among baby boomers, a knowledge and a luxury their parents’ generation never had: the drive to stay fit throughout one’s life.

So how does one go from senior citizen to Indy? According to sources close to the actor, Ford embarked upon an intense fitness regime that included hours on the treadmill and a high-protein diet. He’s surely also consulted with health professionals and trainers to ensure that he’s not putting too much stress on his aging body, but according to reports, he’s doing just fine slipping back into the shoes of America’s favorite archaeologist. Ford himself is confident as well: “I feel fit to continue and bring the same physical action,” says the star. The film is currently being shot near the Big Island in Hawai’i.

This is nice to know but personally I'd like to see more on how exercises must be modified as we age. At 53 I'm doing pretty much the same as in my 30's. With the exception of a more intense warm up. Probably a bit more emphasis on cardio too. Someone once asked me why I do it and I figure its like fixing up your house... its where you have to live at! Michael T
