Bad Food Culprit of the Week- Jimmy John’s
Jimmy John’s menu states that “All of my tasty sub sandwiches are a full 8 inches of homemade French bread, fresh veggies, and the finest meats & cheese I can buy!” What’s not fine is the amount of calories, fat, and sodium that’s packed in some of the popular choices. A ‘Billy Club’, which has roast beef, ham, provolone, Dijon mustard, lettuce, tomato, and mayo, has 909 calories, 44 grams of fat, and 2326 grams of sodium. The sodium alone is more than a day’s worth! I decided to take a look at something that seemed a bit healthier- the ‘Gourmet Veggie Club’, and found that it had a whopping 1141 calories, 70 grams of fat, and 1779 grams of sodium!
One way to reduce the fat and calories is to hold the mayo and cheese, or better yet, try one of their lighter choices. A ‘Turkey Tom’ sandwich has 326 calories, 0.87 grams of fat, and 1159mg of sodium. Or, try an ‘unwich’ which uses a lettuce wrap instead of bread. To be fair to Jimmy John’s though, most restaurant club sandwich choices are high in fat, calories, and sodium. If you do decide to splurge, at least Jimmy John’s doesn’t use ‘mystery meat’ in their sandwiches.

How about Subway? Do they
How about Subway? Do they use mystery meat. I always get a 6" turkey there and forget the cheese. Their new choice of apples makes me happy!
