Bad Food Culprit of the Week: Starbucks Date Bar

admin's picture

Next time you’re in Starbucks sipping your Chai Latte, and thinking about a healthy treat to have with it, don’t be fooled into thinking that the Date Bar is a good choice. Sure, dates are healthy, but certainly not in ‘Date Bar’ form. In British Columbia, Canada, a Date Bar has 390 calories, 140 of those from fat, 3 grams of saturated fat and four grams of trans fat. In Ontario, Canada, even though they’ve eliminated the trans fat, the bar contains 500 calories, 210 from fat! Note that not all Starbucks locations have the same food choices, so not all sell the Date Bar. When in doubt, ask the barista if the product you’re choosing has trans fat. Although, many of the food choices on the menu have 400 calories (or more!), so it’s best to ask yourself if you really need a treat with your morning coffee.
